Tell me about the Glock....

For me personally, there is nothing to dislike about a gen4 26.
I love mine. Its never failed once and I've been shooting it for two years now. I much prefer the grip texture on the gen 4 as opposed to the gen 3's I own. You can have 10+1, 15+1, 17+1, or 33+1 if you prefer. That's a lot of fire power for such a small firearm.
Its also great here in the hot and sweaty South Carolina summers, as the finish seems indestructible. All that is just my personal take on it anyway.
If you were to ask my wife this same question she would say, ''I hate Glocks". She much prefers the xd's. The love of a fire arm greatly differs from person to person, but I'm still drinking the Glock koolaid.

The glock 27 is my favorite gun. So I can easily say I'd love the glock 26. They're definitely not the smallest or most concealable gun (I posted about my frustration while back), but a shirt size up and a galco king tuck serves me well. I think so many people like these guns (and so many others criticize them) because the sub-compact glocks are essentially chopped down full-size guns. It doesn't feel like it was designed with size as its primary function, but rather a convenient addition. While the concealability may suffer a bit because its just as thick as its full-size counterpart, it shoots just as well as its full-sized counterpart. I carry mine with pinky extensions and shoot it just as well as I shoot my glock 22. I dabbled with a kel-tec pf9 and a Ruger lc9, but I didn't feel like I had enough gun to grab and continued to carry my glock 27.

And then: blah blah blah glocks are reliable, durable, cheap, etc.

Funny how Generation 4 reliability issues are so often overlooked. There are a lot of options out there that are more reliable and ergonomic than gLoCk.

What reliability issues would those be? What are the plethora of options that would be better?

Its accurate enough for combat purposes, and pretty reliable so long as all parts are in good working order (I have a Glock 17 that become very spotty for a while - turned out a small chip had broken off of the extractor, but Glock fixed it a no charge).

There are a lot of other guns out there that equal it in performance and reliability though. In particular the S&W M&P and the Ruger SR series are every bit the gun the Glock is and usually can be had for less money new (then again, there are more police surplus Glocks out there that can sometimes be had at great prices).

Basically, IMHO, except that there are very similar pistols that are just as good and cost less, I don't really have any complaints against Glocks.

Does/did the M&P not have a bunch of accuracy problems? And a trigger that even S&W fanboys say sucks and needs replaced with something better?

Ruger SR...thanks but no thanks.

Did it have a bunch of accuracy problems? No but a few of the early FS 9mm models did. They have since been fixed. Did early models have a poor trigger? Yes. But again, that has also been fixed (The compact models have had good triggers from the beginning).

I have both an M&P and two Glocks. I like all three and wouldn't hesitate to grab any of them for defense. I carry my M&P and one of the Glocks (G19), and Co. Pete with the M&P and my other Glock (G34). Go ahead and bash the M&P, but you just said that you have never shot one so your opinion there doesn't hold much value.

FWIW, my M&P has been more reliable than both of my Glocks, and they generally can be found for the same price or less than Glocks. The only problem currently plaguing M&P owners is the lack of available magazines.

I don't own an SR, but after shooting several hundred rounds through them I don't know what the problem is with them? The magazine disconnect can be removed and the LCI, while large) does not interfere with a sight picture. Again, haven't heard of any reliability issues with them.

Uh...where did I say that?

I have shot one. Two, actually. I don't own/haven't owned one, though.

Your comments about the M&P were questioning, implying that you had no personal experience with them. If you have had personal experience, then please, give that input, not the input that goes around on the Internet and is grossly over exaggerated.

You read more into my statement than there was. Sometimes when you assume people are implying something, you get it wrong.

I did not like the trigger on the M&P I shot (my dad has a full size M&P 9). I didn't like it at all. And my understanding is that I am FAR from the only one to have that complaint.

Are you saying the M&P accuracy issue is "internet myth"?

(The compact models have had good triggers from the beginning)

I dont know about that.. The M&P45c that I owned had an atrocious trigger, even after an Apex w/FS kit it was so-so. Gave the trigger to a buddy and sold the gun.

I was saying "good" relative to the triggers of the FS M&Ps. And the .45s were different altogether than the .40s and 9mms. Most people liked the .45s much more than the other two.

It sounds like the M&P line has it's own little foibles to take into consideration.

What mass produced gun doesn't? Name it it will have its detractors.. besides, it's not like a glocks trigger is better.. Just as crappy with 4 miles of travel.

Indeed to many problems with the New gen 3 and gen 4 glocks.

I got a glock about 2 months ago and went with the Gen 3 hoping to avoid any problems and was disappointed when the gun started shooting brass right, left, up and everywhere you can think of. Problem seems to be coming from a poorly made extractor and glock would probably replace it but I expected more from a company the uses "Prefection" as there slogan and is far from it.

Now I will say that the gun has not failed me yet so it's a little better than my hi point but not by much. My CZ 75b was a little cheaper, about the same price but is easily twice the gun.

I would say if you can get an older glock you would probably be fine but glocks QC is going down hill fast that and the MIM extractor.

I used to shoot Glocks, but first time I shot a Springfield XD I left the Glocks behind. The Springfield is a much better design IMHO. As a handloader I would not feel safe running full power loads through the Glock due to their well known chamber issues, the Springfield takes max loads like a champ. Just a stronger gun.

Ruger SR...thanks but no thanks.

My M&P is quite accurate - I actually shoot it better than I shoot my Glock. The trigger - meh, I did upgrade it with an Apex kit (though I put around 1500 rounds through it on the original trigger), but the original wasn't that bad. Certainly no worse than the stock Glock trigger (and my Glock trigger has been upgraded as well).

I don't actually own the Ruger SR (yet) but I have shot one several times and have quite enjoyed it. Its just as reliable and accurate as the Glock and has much better ergonomics.

Don't get me wrong - there's nothing really bad at all about Glocks. They're good pistols and I like mine. I just don't see any reason why they're elevated over any other brand. In today's market they're just one in a crowd without a lot to make them stand out IMHO.

Or, a Springfield XD if it fits your hand better.

Here here, rc. My 2007 XD9 has proven itself in a real life situation.
