Tell me about the Makarov Pistol....

The ones on the market right now are the East German imports (C&R applies here), Bulgarian (most common, NON C&R), and Russian commerical versions.

They run from 200-350 (although more on the 350 side) and are extremely robust, reliable, simple, and accurate platforms.

Get one, they are still inexpensive enough to justify. To give you an example, I purchased my East German for 209, and my Bulgarian for 150. I could easily Double my money with each handgun and they would STILL be a bargain.

Grab one while you can, you won't be sorry.

Thanks all for the very helpful replies and info. My apologies for taking so long to respond, but I worked double shifts for the last couple of days and didn't do much but work and sleep (more work, less sleep) on those days.

After reading all of the positive responses about the Makarov, I am going to buy one. (Heaven knows I don't need much of an excuse to buy another gun.);)

I'm going to haunt GB, AA, and GA for a good deal on an excellent cond. one.

Again, thanks.

Simply marvelous guns...

Makarovs are simply marvelous. They have all the right stuff, and are as reliable as sunrise. After all, they were field tested by the KGB and every Soviet bloc police force in the former Russian empire.

I don't shoot mine as much as I used to, because they have a tendency to crack the frame after thousands of rounds, and mine's too pretty to get a boo-boo. There are some spring tricks you can play to prevent that, but I haven't done it yet, so I'm putting it up until that works done.

There are lots of different loads for them, but the old standard Russian or Chinese ball ammo runs through it like a Swiss watch, and it's got a lot of "pop" to it as well. I may one day have to sell my guns, but my Mak will be one of the last ones to go... just wish they were "high capacity".
