I was at the local gunshop and i found a Colt 1911 that i really liked. i already have 1 fullsize 1911 that i love, and i want to get another of course. but one that is a little better size for ccw.
so here are the details of the 1911 i found.

Colt mark 4 series 80
It was blued, with wood grips, and the gold Colt emblem. slightly used, but in great shape, with wear marks here and there, on the normal locations, it didn't look like it had been shot or carried very much.

it had a 4" bushingless bull type barrel. with a full length guide rod.
The gun looked totally stock. no checkering on the frontstrap, and three dot sights, non ns just three dot white dots. it has a small barely there beavertail, would this be an issue for me getting slide bite?
also the safety was short and not very wide, but it clicked on and off comfortabley in a firing grip and positivly. the saftey though smaller than i am used too on 1911's would still be suffecient.

it pointed naturally, and the sights came up easy. i wish i would have been able to shoot it but i am sure that it is good to go.

The price was $675, but the owner gives me better deals on things than the price on the tag, so i am sure that i could get it for $100-$125 less than the price on it.

so tell me all about it, is that too expensive for what it is?
does anyone have one that can give me some guidence?
how do they perform?
Is this thing gonna need alot of work to be reliable? that is definetly not what i want. i want to buy it, check accuracy and reliability and then start ccw with it.

thanks in advance, and i hope that i have enough details that will help you guys help me. thanks again.

It's a gamble to buy any used auto. If you can get it for $575 that would be a good deal. Look up on the net on how to check one out. I would not use it for CC until it has fired around 500 flawless rounds through it. Then you will know the pistol and what it likes. Good luck. :D

oh yeah all of my guns get a minimum of 500rds before they are put on any kind of duty. Hd/sd/ccw etc.
i am looking at gunbroker and gunsamerica but they are a little hard to find but i am gonna keep looking.

thanks

ok forgive me i was wrong, that isn't out of the ordinary! it was one of the 3.5" officers acp models. it had to have been after looking at cpmmander size guns and pics of the officer acp it has to be the officer acp. so knowing what i do now is that a good buy still? still good for ccw? sorry guys

I only have one Officer's Model (Series 80) to base anything on -

Mine had a standard "tabbed recoil spring plug" and no FLGR as stock equipment. I believe it had dual springs as Colt's design attempt to deal with the lighter slide weight.

It was converted to an Ed Brown (?) FLGR, which used a reverse recoil spring plug and a single heavy spring. This was to solve the problem of the recoil spring plug tab occasionally shearing off (rendered the gun inoperable.)

It order to do this, around 0.030" had to be milled off the back end of the slide, where the recoil spring was housed. This provided the necessary space for the reverse plug.

So, if you have a FLGR, you might check for the rest of the conversion. There might be a reverse plug, too.
