Do you buy 10 round magazines for traveling?

I just ordered a ten round magazine for my Kimber R7 Mako for traveling.
I currently have an 11 round and 4-13 round magazines for the little shark. I thought that it may be a good idea to have a 10 round for trips. I may travel through a state with a magazine capacity restriction.???
I understand that I need to know the laws of the states that I enter, and in many I can't carry anyway.

No, I buy ten round magazines because they are ten round magazines.

Although only a few of my pistols even accept larger than ten round magazines I try to make sure I have some already in stock for those pistols. Many of course if not most actually came with ten round magazines initially and I've added higher capacity magazines over the decades.

I do carry and use the ten rounders just to make sure they are functional and don't feel any less protected with just ten rounds than when I carry with larger capacity magazines. But as I said, it's only a small percentage of all my pistols that even have magazines available with over ten rounds.

Going back looking at even my more recent new pistol purchases, of the last nine new modern pistols only one had a capacity over ten rounds but it also came with a ten round magazine.

Most of the states with magazine bans don't have reciprocity with my permits. The only state I can think of where I could travel and carry that has a magazine ban is Washington state. Also Delaware, but I can't imagine why I would go to Delaware.

If I'm restricted to 10 rounds I would just carry a 1911, Glock 30, Kimber Micro 9 or something.

I just looked at the list of states with 10 round magazine limits. I have no intention of visiting any of those states except one for Christmas and I can’t carry there anyway.
If I were visiting a 10 round mag limit state that I could carry with reciprocity I would use 10 round mags. That way if something did occur a cop or a DA couldn’t say I blatantly disregarded their laws by carrying a “high capacity” magazine(s). OR I would just carry a revolver in that state.

My carry is a Kimber Eclipse II with a 3" barrel in 45 acp. 7 round mag. No need to buy a reduced cap. mag.

I have a friend who traveled with a duplicate of his normal carry pistol, but it had dedicated 10 round magazines and was kept in a "travel bag" so as not to comingle with his other carry pistols. If memory serves he carried a Glock 19, so magazines were cheap and readily found.

The only state I visit that has mag restrictions caps handguns at 15 rounds. So I bring a handgun that carries 12 instead. I don't neuter my firearms anymore than necessary.

We have property and family in California, so yes, I did once buy ten round mags for a couple handguns and a rifle for my trips down there (primarily driving down from WA).

Wouldn't you just know it? Now we are restricted to ten-round (or less) magazines for handguns and long guns in Washington (those of us who may have possessed standard-capacity mags for our firearms prior to the law's effective date are currently grandfathered. For now.)

My previous "California pistol" was a SIG P-225A1 (nine plus one). I now use the Glock 43X or SIG P-365. Now my "California rifle" is a Marlin 336 in .30-30. Sigh. And now I have a daughter in New York state. At least in Illinois where my sister lives, the mag capacity thing is moot (for now). It just gets better and better...

No and I don't go to states that have magazine bans and accept my LTC...

One never knows where or when you may have to travel, so I never say never. While it isn’t something I thought about before reading this thread, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea if the ccw you use has a magazine capacity over 10. (Certainly is less expensive to buy a new magazine than buying a whole new gun.)

This is especially true for states where just bringing in a magazine of 11 rounds or more is not legal in and of itself. 😞

YMMV, so to each his own. :)

Stay safe.

Never really thought about it, and, honestly, my carry guns are generally 10/6/5 anyway, and our travels to FL generally take us to carry friendly states, Maryland excepted.
Now possession of a 10+ round magazine is simply illegal in some states, and that may raise an issue. Our Federal system does have some gives and gets.

Up in the air for the moment here in IL. Would not be surprised if it had to do to SCOTUS to get these people to do the not-wrong thing.

I haven't actually tried to buy a normal capacity magazine lately.

You are welcome to come up and visit -- our friends and family from Florida who get up here regularly appreciate the natural beauty and activities up here that are so different from Florida. The original "shall issue" state still has fewer gun-free zones than many other states, and concealed carry is still common and accepted (except for the ball-parks and concerts, alas). Having to use only 10-round or less magazines isn't really much of a compromise as some here believe (just carry a couple spares).

Not traveling to another state solely because you can't bring in standard capacity magazines, as some have stated, can deprive one of experiencing much of the natural beauty this continent has to offer.

This gives me the idea for another thread topic...

If necessary, I can carry my 1911 or a revolver. I try to avoid places that won't let me carry what I want to carry. As a retired law enforcement officer, I do understand the importance of being found in compliance of laws if there is a need to closely examine a situation even if I don't necessarily agree with the law.

Washington state is beautiful. That's why I keep a North Dakota permit.

Call me a rebel, but in most states it’s a misdemeanor……

I don’t follow idiotic unconstitutional laws very well.
