Terminal Performance of .22 Rem Golden Bullet

I've been shooting Remington .22 36gr. HP Golden Bullets in my .22's for a while now, because they group well in both rifle and pistol.

Today I had a chance to shoot some critters with 'em. Some "whistle pigs". Dunno what the real name is, but that's what we call 'em in Idaho. The body is about an inch in diameter. Also shot some prarie dogs(?), about 2" diameter.

Shots were around 50 yards. One at 25 yards. In all cases, the critter was DRT. Couldn't recover a bullet to verify that they expanded, but the external evidence seems to indicate they did. Each critter lost a good portion of the "far side."

Not bad for the cheapest ammo Wal-Mart carries.

I too like those bricks of Remington Golden Bullets. Compared to some of the Federal "cheapies" at Wally World, they have far, far fewer misfires when using on paper targets in hunter ed classes. More experence here on critters with the more pricey .22 loads, but I suspect that in the majority of instances, the Golden Bullets would make them just as dead.

They worked just fine for me this past squirrel season, on both grey and fox squirrels.

RGB's are definitely the best cheap ammo out there.Far more consistent than the bulk Federal.

Strange! Whilst I have no complaints with the Rem accuracy .... I have had by far, more misfires from Rem ... and so come down myself on side of the Federal ..... very few probs with that in either Marlin 60, Mauser Oberndorfe or semi auto pistol, and single six revo.

Wonder how that can be explained!

Through a 597 I had nothing but problems with Rem's. The wally world cheapie federals have worked great for me.

I think at some point, most the the .22 rimfire mfgrs. will put out some defective lots.

Up until today, I'd had no misfires whatsoever out of a brick of Remington Subsonics. Then 2 out of about a dozen rounds from same box. The rims showed good strike marks, but simply did not go bang. It seems like I've been told it has to do with liquid-applied primer not getting properly distributed around perimiter during massive application and spin job to dry ...

I've had trouble with the Golden Remingtons, too. Not from misfires, but from stove pipes. I rationalized that they didn't burn clean and left the chamber dirty. For cheap stuff, I use the Winchester Wildcats. For hunting situations, my 10/22 really likes the Remington Cyclones, their hyper-velocity hollow point. Wally World doesn't carry them, so I have to get them at the gun shop.

Golden Bullets I shot into fruit mushroomed to .50" Misfires depend on the gun, a lot more in pistols than in rifles.
