Hi guys. Just to let y'all know I have set up a website for supporters of the Texas open carry movement called Texans For Open Carry. I'd appreciate it if you guys came and supported us in our fight to have our right to open carry restored. The site is still under some construction but I hope to have more content added shortly.

Thanks again!

Mitchell.

I'm another Tarheel who joins you in spirit in your fight.Only 6 states have no OC(technically of course). It should be zero.
Go Texas. You are going to win this battle.

You are going to win this battle.

We might win open carry but this particular battle proposed by this group I don't think we can win yet.

This group proposes a constitutional amendment removing the CHL laws completely and just allowing carry any time, anywhere, concealed or otherwise.

Certainly I'm all for that and I'd do whatever it took to get that done but I don't see that kind of sweeping legislation getting passed in the near term.

I think you'll see several things introduced the next time our lazy (they only meet every 2 years) legislature is together but I don't think it will be nearly this comprehensive.

Just signed it. Thank you for the link and setting up the website. BTW I was 22,999 to sign.

You may think "lazy" but I usually think "thank God they only meet every other year to try and foul things up!" :)

Sending some money to TSRA will do more to make it happen than signing a petition, especially an on-line one. Post cards and letters to your representatives carry good weight as well, but I'm Gerrymandered into a Yellow-Dog Democratic district for state elections.

Rifleman, I happen to like that our Legislature only meets every two years. That cuts in half the amount of damage they can do to us. Think of all the legislation we would have avoided if Congress only met every two years. I wish we could get them to meet once every four years.

The last I heard of any open carry legislation, the legislature wanted to license it and require the same things from OC people as from CHL holders. What I read of it was almost word for word what I suggested to my representatives.

If it changes much, and my reps vote for it I will do my best to vote them out of office. Either OC people should endure the same BS that CHL folks do, or CHL requirements need to be dropped.

This is exactly one of the reasons why it's so damned hard to get our rights back. We eat each other alive for some petty F'ing reason because somebody feels put upon or discriminated against or for some idiotic reason of not being treated fairly.

thanks for absolutely nothing.

Be thankful that you are "saddled" with this impediment, TR. My father told me that the only mistake he made in the voting booth was voting in favor of amending Indiana's Constitution to allow the General Assembly to meet every year.

Good luck, Texas.:)

The Vermont-style of gun carry is the ultimate goal but not the immediate goal. We don't feel that anyone should need to get permission from the government to defend themselves. If you are forced to get a CHL you are asking the governments permission for self-defense. The purpose for the constitutional amendment is so that the Legislature can't just make changes to the law. As we all know the only way the Texas constitution can be added to or altered is by voter approval at the ballot box.

The TSRA does good work and has fought hard for gun rights in Texas. Our problem with the TSRA is that they haven't really come out publicly for open carry. I've heard reports that they are working behind the scenes for open carry but we don't feel that is good enough. Groups like ours and the Texas Citizens Defense League want a public discussion about it. We want our representatives in Austin to HEAR and KNOW that Texans want open carry. We hope that the TSRA can get open carry legislation passed but Texans For Open Carry is concerned for much more than that. Like it was brought out earlier we don't want just a law saying it's ok. We want a constitution amendment for unlicensed open carry.

That's a simple minded and narrow way of looking at the issue. Instead of fighting against open carry because we want unlicensed open carry why not jump on the band wagon and support the drive for it. If we can get unlicensed open carry we can use that as means to get rid of licensed concealed carry. Your view point needs to be adjusted. What if everyone thought like you? We could just as easily say private sellers and buyers should go through the same process as FFL dealers and people who buy from them. Either everyone has to have a background check done to buy a gun and everyone who sells one must have an FFL or no one should be able to buy and sell guns or they should get rid of all of those rules. How does that grab you? I mean, fair is fair right?

This is the remarkable paradox, not just in Texas but all states that don't allow OC.Vermont has had this no permit,OC or CC rule on the books since 1902.And Vermonters without parental permission can strap on a gun at 16.Even younger with the parents OK.
Population density wise Vermont is far from the bottom and ranks 47th in violent crime. It's worked there for over 100 years.Yet its example has been emulated so far only by Alaska and even there the minimum age is 21.
Only 6 states don't have some form of OC and 4 are in the South.(AR,FL,NY,OK,SC and TX)
It's incomprehensible to me.

I've always been amazed at the gun control crowd that like to say that the average law abiding citizen needs permission to carry a gun or can't carry one at all because if everyone carried one we'd have more shootings. That's just stupid. First off, the only people doing the shooting are the criminals and the only ones doing the dying are the ones whom the government said can't have a gun for self-defense. I think Vermont has the right idea and I hope that one day Texas can adopt those rules. It's going to take some work and it's going to take people with the balls to do it. We have unlicensed concealed carry in vehicles now so we are making progresses.
