The great state of TEXAS
I am getting ready to renew my LTC (formally known as CHL). I have advanced to the point where I can just renew it online. I started the process last night and got to a point where they wanted me to enter my employer, their address, and their phone number. What in the world does my employer have to do with my LTC? I did not finish and exited the site. Anybody know if there is a way to opt out of entering this info? With this kind of data on file, would someone's employer be able to track LTC holders? Why are they requesting this info?

Possibly to verify your background check? I'm sure your background get rerun when you renew.

I found this link on the chl website to the actual law and it does list business address as a requirement. I also noticed they give discounts to certain employees such as state employees and leo. I would contact them and see what they say.

A fine idea if it's true. If it's not true, it's a lousy idea to lie on an LTC application.

I infer from the OP's question that he is not in fact retired.
What he said, this only gives the libs more fuel for their agenda. There's a fine line between civil disobedience and skirting fed/state laws just because you don't want them having too much info.

Dear Frank,

I get a monthly check from the government as a reward for my 31 years of accumulated service. Good enough?

It was not a suggestion to skirt the law. It was simply a statement of fact the some other Texas members may be able to truthfully use.

You might not have a choice. If the renewal application asks for the information, unless someone can point to applicable legal authority relieving you of an obligation to fully and truthfully complete your renewal application, including employment information, you're stuck.

BTW, does the application include an "under penalty of perjury" clause or some other form of attestation that all information is truthful?

Regardless of what it is asking, the government does not have the right to call your employer and do anything more than confirm your employment. Nor will they.

In all likelihood the employer information will either be used as part of the check process in a database, or it will be used if the government needs to find you.

But if the government started calling people's employers and let them know about gun licenses, adoption plans, travel plans, outside employment, etc - they would get sued. So they aren't going to do that.

This goes on all the time in some towns and cities in a certain state. And these are just for permits to purchase a handgun. Carry permits remain off limits for most residents.

Howell PD contacted my employer. I am not in a gun related occupation.

Sayreville never did it before and the person who is handling this for the PD is the same person, but they just did call my employer

Going deeper into this; I didn't give a person's name only the business name as employer. This means whoever opens the company mail read the contents and then forwarded it to the boss. It may not be a private matter at everyone's company depending on who opens the mail. It was OK at mine. Big boss mentioned it to my boss who already knew about it.

I know for me, (I needed to go through the State Police due to no local PD, oh Warren County, White township) they called my work. Now the number I put down was my direct number. When the trooper got me, he asked if he could speak to my supervisor. I am only two steps in bosses from the CEO, and my CTO (who is my boss) was in China at the time, so I connected him to my HR rep. He wanted to speak directly to someone at my place of employment to vouch for me. Pretty invasive.

Unintended consequences....

"You want to know about who?"

<other party's response time>

"Oh, him ! What did he do this time?"

<cue visual: sinking ship.>

<fade in: water cooler with people standing around> "And did you know the police called about him? I don't know what he did, but it can't be good."

The WA Handgun Transfer form (which must be filled out for every handgun transfer) now asks what the transferee's occupation is. I have no idea why the state government needs to know that information. But, you want the pistol, you answer the question.

Since the OP is a Texan...........it is a violation of Texas law to disclose CHL/LTC information to an employer.

20 years ago I got my CA CCW. The application was huge. It also asked about my employer. It also asked about my military history and even required me to produce my DD-214 All I remember was it was huge and invasive.

Your employment info is in most cases not to complicated to find out, unless your working under the table. Especially for the powers that be. I don't think I would be concerned to put it on the application.
