FIrst the thanks:

Thanks to Tuner, Fuff, et. al for the fine collection of 1911 posts in the archives. Using that info I formulated a plan for phase 1 of customizing my Mil Spec.

Installed a Nowlin trigger kit, replaced ILH guts, fit new thumb safety and etc. Things went like a CHARM. I have a wonder full trigger pull that's so good I hardly believe I done it myself.

Now for the GRRRR part.

My King's Beavertail is on back order at Brownells and has been for ever with no end in sight. So I have this nicely put together 1911 I can't go shoot because the stock grip safety won't work with the new hammer. I also can't claim 100% victory until I make sure it's only going to go bang once with each pull and only go bang when I want it to.

I've thought about going after the stock safety with a dremel tool but I know that will look like butt. So I guess I wait.....

I'll post pics when it comes in.

If I may suggest, I used the dreaded Wilson "drop-in" blued beavertail safety on a 1991-A1 and my LW Commander. The Commander has been working fine since 1997. It is an easy installation. Just a small file and some minor fitting. Might be a short term solution until Brownells get its act together.

Zeke, thanks for thinking of me man, but Springers have a different tang radiuis from the rest of the 1911 world. If I want a drop in BT, it has to be the Kings. Else I start grinding on the frame. I'm not quite ready for that.

My guns are/were Colts. I was too poor at the time to take either of them to a proper 'smith. I did as much work on them myself as I dared. Mostly drop-in stuff. Too much of a coward to mess with sear angles and the complicated stuff.

Good Luck with Brownell's.

Have you tried contacting King's directly?

You can grind a notch in the stock grip safety and use it with your new hammer until your beavertail comes in. Look at a stock Commander and you'll get the idea.

Kings does direct mail order of all their 1911 parts. Call them at (800) 282-9449.

It's very true that I can direct mail order from King's, but I've already PAID for one from Brownells.

Think I might just dig out the dremel tool.

If you already paid just call Brownells and cancel the order. Its not like its a special build and they're sinking time and money in to your order.

Rabbit, you raise a good point except I'm getting it at my buddies FFL rate so there was some discounting involved.

ANyway, we just got an email that it shipped so it's all moot. Thanks to everyone for listening to my whining. I'll shut up now.
