642-1

This is my everyday carry 642-1, no lock, with Smith J frame checkered wood grips (which fit my hand size very well, and comes out of the pocket very smoothly), and the Uncle Mike's Sidekick (size 3) pocket holster. I carry this in my front pants pocket, and it is very comfortable and very easily drawn. I shoot Speer 125 gr. JHP + P factory loads, which in my 642-1 groups 5 shots in about 3 inches at 7 yards very consistently, if I manage to do my part.

I just got back home with my NEW S&W 642 and I already put grey Laminated grips on it (Thanks bulbboy I have a copy of yours now:D ) (Imitation is the best form of flattery)

Love this gun........membership for the club please..............

Gonna be Pocket but gonna try IWB

I have recently ordered a pocket holster from K&D Holsters. It is called the 2 in 1 pocket holster. can be used in the front or back pocket by removing a snap on flap to break-up the outline in the back pocket.

It is about an 8 to 10week wait but from what I hear from the KTOG Site, it is worth it.

When I carry my 642 in an IWB I will put my Kel Tec P3AT in my pocket and vice versa.

I have a holster for my 642 on order from him as well. Kevin @ K & D Holsters is one of the nicest guys you'll ever do business with! His holsters are top notch, I own 5 and have two more on order!

CCW Jeeper & the 9000s

CCW Jeeper, welcome to the 642 Club and congrats on making a good trade. I love Berettas, but that 9000 is the clunkiest "compact" I've ever set eyes on.

May your 642 serve you well and keep you safe.

Thought I'd update ya'll on my 642. I took it to the range and dialed in the CT lasergrips. After I got the grips aimed at point of impact I shot 5-shot groups with the remaining ammo. I was getting 1-2" groups at 7 yards. I'm sure that the gun can shoot better than that but that's the best I could do with that long DA trigger until I get more used to it. But it's still much better than I was shooting before adding the grips. In addition, the overmolded grips fit my hand better.

All in all I'm very satisfied with my 642/lasergrip combo as a compact, light and accurate carry gun.

good memory!!

I was just now looking at websites trying to figure out what grips to put on a Ruger SP101 I bought today! Great gun also - a little heavy to tote in your pocket though...

After a year or so and a ridiculous number of posts and views I thought I would check back in as a Page #1 Plankowner in the club. :D The 642 still goes everywhere with me. I still don't like speedloaders, in fact I stopped carrying a reload for this one as it is not a primary gun. The finish is getting beat, the grip is embedded with painter's putty and such, yet it remains quite reliable and every ready. Working on my house I have taken to keeping it in a pocket of the carpenter's toolbelt, a great working gun for those that cannot for whatever reason carry a big gun on the hip all day. Sometimes I even become an old codger and carry wheelguns only, a 325 and the 642. I see another 642 and a Model 25 Thunder ranch thing on the horizon. Stupid wheelguns!

Starting to become an addiction with me! The last three guns I've bought were wheelies! and I thought I was young - aren't I supposed to be enamored with autos?

Dratted 642 Club.....

After hearing you guys rave about the freaking thing, I became seduced by the siren song and like a brain-dead zombie after a meal, went and bought one!

Well, it wasn't exactly a 642, it was a 442 with the CT Laser Grips. I had a choice at the same price, but I liked the black finish on the 442 better.

Just what I needed.... another gun.

OK.... everybody always needs another gun.

Now that I've got it, any suggestions on holsters?

And what's the best personal defense load for this mini-barreled beauty? I heard the Gold Dots for short barrel .38s had the best combination of power vs. recoil vs. muzzle blast. Any input, now that you took my kid's milk money for the month.

Hey... the kids'll do just fine on bread and water for a while, it's not like they're going to starve.

:D

Two great ones are from K & D Holsters.

the Pocket Defender and the Mini-IWB-Defender

Great prices and great custom made holsters for off the shelf prices.

I am so excited, I can hardly stand it.

How many rounds/dry fires does it take to make the trigger smooth out like a good ole Smith should feel?

Well I finally went and done it. Picked up a couple of boxes of Speer GoldDot .38 Special 135 gr JHP for short barreled revolvers. Been braggin about my 642 long enough, figured it was about time I gave it something good to eat.

Haven't had the chance to shoot any yet, but with all the reviews I already trust it enough to carry with it.

Hey, I never said I was smart! :scrutiny:

It came in today and I got off early....here she is!

The spent case envelope is date 7-11-06, so it went from fire date to distributor to my gun dealer in 8 days. Amazing...

I carry Speer Gold Dot, mostly because I had a few boxes sitting around. Last weekend I ran a couple of hundred rounds of Remington green box practice ammo through it, shooting up coffee cans and orange juice jugs at my dad's farm. I was practicing drawing from my pocket and shooting two targets at various distances and positions as quickly as possible. I don't know how I'd do in a real self-defense situation, but if I ever get attacked by an orange juice jug and a coffee can, I'm golden.

That holster looks sweet. I like my Uncle Mike, but after several months of constant use it's starting to look a little beat and is beginning to lose it's ability to hide the outline of the gun.

You know I've noticed the same thing. I thought I just wasn't paying close enough attention before, but I bet it is just wearing thin with so much use.

Guess I better get off my bum and order one of those Mika's like quick! :D

Kudos on your purchase aguyindallas! It is funny how I have that same gun, same ammo, and same speed loader, but still like looking at your picture.

We are a sick bunch, ain't we?

Not at all. We just know the best handgun when we see it.

Took mine to the range today and busted off a few rounds before my IDPA match. 55 flawless rounds. Not enough to get anywhere with it, but I was in a hurry to test the bang switch. I need to get a few hundred more down the pipe, but I am in LOVE!

I have a Galco Pocket Horsehide on the way...should get it sometime next week.
