The S&W 642 is immensely popular among snubby afficionados, but I know I can't be the only one who prefers his snub-nosed revolvers be made out of steel. Sure, it's a little extra weight, but the difference in handling and recoil are immense.

Here's the Model 60 (no dash) that rides in my pocket when pocket carry is indicated. Included are its standard load of Speer Gold Dot 135-grain +P short-barrel rounds.

Does anyone else carry a steel snubby?

Tried a couple of Airweight revolvers (37's), an aluminum-framed Bodyguard, and an AirLite, as well as some alloy semis. Sold 'em all and happily stayed with my 2" 60 in .357. More power, more shooting comfort, equal portability.

Have a little Rossi M68 that's an accurate and well fitted little gun. It has a 3" barrel and is easier to shoot than 2" guns. I really like the 3" guns even if they don't necessarily meet some folk's definition of "snub". I get 2" groups with it at 25 yards off sandbags, pretty amazing for such a little gun. I'll admit to carrying an alloy gun daily, though. :D I had a stainless M88 Rossi 2" I sold after buying a Taurus M85 Ultra Lite.

My everyday back and forth to work gun is a
640-1 357mag carried in a fobus paddle
holster.I secure it at work in my locker so i
like the easy off/on of the fobus.I also have
a 642-2 for pocket carry along with a 65-3
that i swap out with the 640-1 on the week
ends.

My 38 year old S&W M49 Bodyguard. I bought it from another undercover cop in 1973. I've been carrying it ever since.

It's currently having a trip to the spa for a little R&R and new finish as the blue worn off twenty years ago.

With 158 grain +P LSWHPs it's a belly gun extraordinaire. It’s the only gun I’ve found that will actually shoot while in a jacket pocket without hanging up.

My 2 1/4" SP101 is just under my right elbow as I type this. Make mine STEEL not some Buck Rogers junk!

The alloy snubs make sense because they are so light but you give up some shooting comfort and longevity. I figure they are a carry often and shoot infrequently situation.

All of my revolvers are steel. My favorite carry revolver is an old Model 40 (this one will also shoot from a jacket poscket, BTW) that was stored on a boat in a marina and corroded badly in the salty air. He traded it in and the gunsmith parkerized it over the pitting and I bought it cheap. Works fine, ugly as Hell, great carry gun because you can't hurt it any worse than it already is. Got the genuine stag grips off ebay for $8.

My personal choices:
S&W 649s or 60s loaded with Gold Dot "short barrel" .38 Special+P JHP.
Ruger SP101s loaded with Buffalo Bore 158gr .357 Magnum JHC.

None are pocket guns, but all are lightweight, easily concealed belt or shoulder rig guns.

1) steel: used S&W 60-7; light/moderate use when bought; added used Uncle Mike's Boot Grips; Federal Hi-Shok 125gr sjhp's +p load; 350 rounds so far; great little gun for car

2) the taboo one...642-2; bought new; 1100 rounds so far; Hornady XTP 125gr jhp's non +p load; clearcoat worn off on breechface due to recoil slamming cartridges into the breechface; clearcoat finish peeling off backstrap due to harsh cleaning formula; great little gun for pocket carry

My wife and I both have model 60s, loaded with 158gr LHPSWC (FBI load). They shoot well, the round seems potent and time proven, and carry comfortably.

I dont' want anything to do with an aluminum wheelgun.

My usual carry gun is a Smith M649.
It's the most accurate snubby I have and is also the easiest to shoot.

I do have an M38, an alloy version of the same gun. It gets carried too, but isn't as easy to shoot as the stainless steel 649.

here are some stainless steel snubbys....

640, 649, 64.

the 640 is bead blasted so it has that aluminum look about it....
