My fave carry gun

I picked up one of these lil 642's and use a Bianchi Clip on IWB rig and I love it! I normally carry a P7 or a Glock 19, but i love this little pistol for warm weather carry. Check out the photo, The Glock is there with the shoulder rig and the 642 is sitting on the box. The Springfield is my ALTERNATE carry gun, jsut to be persnickity.

I purchased my new 642 last week, and finally got out to the range with it earlier today! Just have to say what an accurate gun it is for it's short barrel. Only put 100 rounds WWB value pack ammo and 25 rounds of the 135gr +P Gold Dots, and I don't think I had one round out of the black at 15 yards with either a two or single hand hold. Recoil was manageable, definitely not unpleasant but pretty much what I expected from the little revo. I was expecting worse grouping due to the diminutive sights, but apparently they do work! I am quite pleased with this purchase. I bought it as a simple and reliable backup weapon to my duty pistol (G23) and for more convenient/lighter off-duty wear. I think it will fill those roles nicely!

I just couldn't resist and bought the 340 last night. I"ve had the 642 for a while and love it but the 340 is so light! I'm sure I'll feel it some when shooting but will carry it more than I shoot it anyway. I'm selling the 642 if anyone might be looking for one.

What's the little pimple on the left side of the frame, straight back from the cylinder release and keylock hole?

Mine has one too. I just noticed it. Looks like a small roll pin or something.

I had one for a couple of months...recently put Crimson Trace laser grips on it (the hard plastic ones- I saved the rubber CT's for the 640) and made the mistake of showing it to my better half "Look Honey, aren't these neat!" She agreed, and liked the setup even better than her M60LS for purse carry. :banghead:

I'm saving for another one...absolutely the nicest pocket gun I've ever seen.

I have the same "dot" too. I removed the sideplate to have a look. I am not a gunsmith, but it appears to be a holding point for a spring (or some other part) that works in the cylinder release mechanism.

Can an expert clarify/verify this?

I’m not a gunsmith but I do play one on t.v. The “dot” is just a pin of some sort. I’ve had my 642 for a couple of years now and its my always. I have CT grips on it and really enjoy shooting it.

Got one of these awhile back, I love it. I keep it stoked with .38 +P from Georgia Arms which uses Gold Dot bullets in nickel Starline brass. Good ammo, especially for the price.

Right now i'm looking for a IWB holster. Any recommendations?

I am not sure the year, but all current production 642s are +P. The current model is the 642-2, and I think the 642-1 is also rated for +P, but doesn't have the lock.
