USMC Tanker,

What shell holder in that you got there? I like the looks of it! Right now I have the neoprene sleeve type, and it slides forward due to recoil.

Impreza,

Both the 3-point sling and the shell holder are made by Specter Gear.

The sling is the Specter Gear CQT (Close Quarters Transition) Sling.

The shell holder integrates with the sling, but they have a stand-alone option for it if you do not want to purchase/use the sling.

I can vouch for both quality and function, I used several Specter Gear products in Iraq.

I bought my 870 Express Supermag about 6 months ago. (I've noticed some say "870 Express" and some say "870 Supermag." Same gun?)

I just stuck an 18" barrel on it about two weeks ago. I have not yet had a change to shoot through the new barrel...no intruders yet...they must have heard.

Question, is it out of the ordinary for a bead site to be slightly off center? I bought the barrel new from Remington. When I look down the length of the gun, I swear the bead sits to the left of center just a hair.

I swear my wingmaster's barrel has the same problem.

I was always an Ithaca M37 fan till I found a police trade in on sale for $129 at a local shop. It was covered with paint and glue residue from duct tape...I think. Took it home and cleaned it up a bit, had a left hand safety installed, and it's been my main SG ever since. Although I'm tempted to buy a new one from time to time, I can't justify it in my mind. The ole 870 does everything I need it to do.

It's odd, when I lay it flat, it looks...okay, maybe just a hair off. When I shoulder it, it looks more pronounced. That would make me believe I'm shouldering it incorrectly. However, I'm bringing it up the exact same way that I bring up my stock, ribbed barrel, and that sight is dead on.

On one hand, it shouldn't matter. I didn't buy the 18" barrel to shoot skeet. I got it for HD. But on the other hand, I like everything to be "just right."

Try putting it on your left shoulder. I notice it seems a little off to the left when I shoulder it regular, and a little right when I shoulder it lefty.

I also have a mid bead(its 28"), so it may be different wit yours.

I have owned two Remington 870's over the years and both of them exceeded my greatest expectations. The first one was a 1979 model 12 ga with a 30" full choke VRB. Great gun but it was a little long in the woods. It was replaced with a 1984 vintage 870 with 28" VRB Mod choke. I picked this up used in a local pawn ( Gun about 90 to 95%) for $160 and have since had it reblued and I have also refinished the stock wih boiled linseed oil. The gun shoot like a dream and I do get alot of compliments at skeet range. Hopefully I will have enough sense to hang on to this one.

First post here in the SG Forum. Hello to all.

I have a mid 70s 870 Wingmaster Magnum 20 ga chambered for 3 inch with full choke, vented rib. SN XXXXX355N. 95% Sweeet. Back in its hey day this shooter has counted coup on more quail, chukar, ducks, and pheasants than I can count when I lived in SW Idaho and hunted the Treasure Valley and Boise River Basin.

I have been looking for barrels, synthetic stock parts, etc but I haven't had good luck with the 20 ga parts.

I'm sure with the wealth of knowledge here you can provide some links.
I think all I really want to do with this is get a short barrel ie 20 inch, put on mag extender and do a synthetic stock or grip type.

I want to get the wood off and preserve it.

Thanks in advance

My other SG of consequence is a mid 70s Belgium Browning Light 12 24 inch modified. 98%. Hot, hot, hot. A closet queen.

Dennis

Welcome aboard, Dennis. Have you tried Numrich for parts? New wood should be available from Wenig and Boyd's.

As for a barrel, it'll probably cost you about as much as a used 870.....

What a fitting thing to spend your 870th post on!

I've got an 870SM and an 870CT. Would like to pick up a used wingmaster to turn into a dedicated deer gun. Have also loved shooting my 870s, suppose I always will!

Only 6 so far. 4 12s and 2 20s. Those youth 20s are nice to carry when the years start adding up. My last 12 ga. was a used EXpress with a 22" or so RC barrel. I like the shorter barrel models. Old 112
