The AK Picture Thread...

I've been wanting an SGL31 for a while. That or an older SLR-105.
Since I already have 7.62 covered, I need a 5.45.
Those SGL's do get some good reviews in both calibers.

I'm getting ready to try a new butt stock on mine.
This will be the 5th one this rifle has had.....lol
Hopefully this will be it...ha ha ha

Mine started off in life as an all Bulgarian SLR-95 like this during the dreaded Clinton years:

Got rid of the thumbhole stock after installing the appropriate number of 922r parts and tried a metal stock first. Hated it.
Then tried a NATO length stock. Too long for me.
Now has a WARSAW length stock. Slightly too short for me.

Just ordered an "intermediate" length stock that splits the difference between WARSAW and NATO and also has the storage compartment in the butt plate for the AK tool kit.
"Maybe" this will finally do it.....lol

Heh, I ended up with the NATO stock on mine and it's just perfect for me. It also helps when a scope is mounted and eye relief is an issue.

I was fine with the NATO length at first when I installed it one Spring.
Ran with it for about 6 months or so with no problems at all.
Then Winter came.
Once I put on my thick, heavy Winter coat to go out shooting, I noticed the longer NATO was giving me trouble trying to shoulder it while wearing bulky clothes.
Would probably still be just fine for somebody with longer arms than me though.

Have you thought about a quality collapsible? A Vltor or Rifle Dynamics AR stock adapter would be a light, durable way to get a collapsible stock on there.

Love the AFG, Inebriated. Great choice, and great rifle.

Thanks, I love the feel. I've actually reverted to the factory K-Var handguards (for the millionth time), due to the weight of the MI handguards, but I do shoot the gun a little better with the AFG. I really do just need a second AK so I can get both setups.

I thought about those, but....I'm not convinced I like the way AR type stocks look on an AK.
From a practical standpoint, it's not a bad idea at all though.
I dunno....

I agree on the looks, but you can make it look nice. Plus, the AK is a workhorse. Workhorses are rarely pretty lol.

This does look very nice, though. (not my gun)

Some of the guns in this thread look nice too with AR type stocks.
That's not what I mean really.
It's just a personal quirk thing for me I guess.

When the stocks are collapsed, they look pretty nice.
But when they are extended for use, seeing that buffer tube sticking out the rear of a gun that doesn't even use one just seems "odd" to me, for lack of a better way to put it.

I put a Tapco T6 on my I.O. AK and added a vertical foregrip. I would never go back to a fixed stock or remove the vertical grip now. The ergos are 100x better now and the gun is much more manageable when firing.

The AR style stock grows on you too and looks fine. Form follows function and to non gun guys the adjustable stock is cool.

What's included in "building" one? You just buy parts and assemble like with AR builds? I've never seen AK parts available like that.
