23" VEPR - 7.62x54R

NICE! That's very close to what I've had in mind for my .308 21" Saiga, except for getting rid of the front sight to install a reflex suppressor. Adjustable Magpul-style AR stock is high on my wish list, after years of frustration with the highly unergonomic thumbhole stock.

Hmm. Maybe I should take a few photos of my AK-derivatives. Saigas, FEGs and AJ/Kassnars are pretty common but I didn't see a pic of Sako M92S in this thread.

Here's a photo of the same Saiga I showed in Post #8. I've since threaded the barrel to accept an AK-351 brake (which I highly recommend, as it tames recoil noticeably, isn't terribly loud, and is much shorter and lighter than a -74 style brake). I've also installed a Magpul AK grip (which I prefer to the US Palm grip previously installed):

I have one of the AK74 type brakes on my Krebs AK103K, and Im about to replace it with a flash suppressor. The gun is a ban era rifle, and the flash suppressors were still verboten at the time I got it.

The 74 brakes do work at reducing muzzle rise, but they are flashy, especially with the 14" barrel the AK103K has. Its not so obvious in bright sun light, but get in the shadows, or any low light/dark environment, and it looks like a tank is being fired. :)

The extra noise of the brake gets to me. I have a 74-style brake on my 7.62x39 (pg 3), and while I love the look and the recoil reduction, the increased sound level really bugs me. Eventually I will get a 24x1RH flash hider to replace my brake.

Love the veprs. =)

I really dont notice that the 74 brake is all that loud. Nothing like a couple of AR's I have that came with brakes.

They were very annoying, especially if you were on either side of the gun when it was shot.

I filed them off right quick and replaced them with flash suppressors.

Don't have a traditional AK rifle currently but this is as close as I've got for now Valmet M76.....

Very nice. Newer type flash suppressor instead of the three-prong one and... is that factory original folding stock? Folders aren't very common, I've been looking one for years and even RK95TP-type replacement stocks (for modifying M92S) go for $500+ nowadays.

IMO these rifles are the only "AK:s" you really need, I shot several <3" 10 shot groups at 150m/164yd with my issued mid-60's vintage iron sight RK62 back in the day. That, however, hasn't prevented me from wanting and buying a number of other, more traditional AK:s over the years. ;)

Nothing too crazy here, my converted Saiga...

Ive since threaded the barrel and added a muzzle brake. Also added a narrower front sight post. Still need to get around to adding a bullet guide kit so that I can use regular AK mags.

Looks good. I really like the factory Saiga handguard, I keep debating whether or not I should run it, ever since I quit running a light on mine.

My humble offerings ...

My 2 newest, both .223; PAP M85 Pistol (not sure if it's going to get an Arm Brace or SBR'd yet) & Valmet tube folder:

Yugo RPK, numbers matching kit on a number matching NDS receiver

The Hungarians all built from AMD-65 kits with a few Romanian AKM gas tubes & chrome lined barrels except the pistol at the bottom, it's all original AMD-65 parts except the receiver & gas tube.

This one is actually a MAK-90 with the AKU-94 kit ... I keep thinking I'll put it back in its original furniture and build a Romanian or something for the kit, but it hasn't happened yet.

A couple new ones.

I have acquired a couple of "new" Ak's since the last time I posted, these are done in the BPU look:

No tacticool here!

Once I put on my thick, heavy Winter coat to go out shooting, I noticed the longer NATO was giving me trouble trying to shoulder it while wearing bulky clothes.
Now you understand why the Russian guns have such short stocks :)

Adam, love it, my question is what is that thing at the bottom of the receiver around the magazine? Some kind of magwell?

Its the only thing I don't care for, but maybe I'd change my mind if it really helps when changing mags

Edit, I should contribute a photo:
