You're welcome, vaalpens :)
Fantastic photos showing the expansion of those fine bullets! ReloaderFred made a few comments on the construction of the V-Crowns that also deserves honorable mention.
My indoor pistol range here doesn't allow tests like this, so your additional effort is appreciated. Well done!

Thank AOG!

Now you know what you have started. I think we have a few believers in the V-Crowns.

That's impressive performance from that bullet in water. Great photography, too!

Fred

Thanks ReloaderFred.

What is impressive is that a water test will normally separate the jacket from the core. This bullet maybe lost a few small pieces of the jacket, but most were intact.

I also tested the RMR 124gr JHP bullets, and could definitely see the difference. The RMR had no jacket left and the recovered weight was 92.5gr (3 pieces).

Another bullet to test would be the Berry's Hybrid JHP's. Those have been impressive in the limited testing I've done with them, but Jay Phillips, when he worked for Berry's, said there was only one bullet that exceeded theirs in the tests they did, and that was the Winchester Ranger, which is the old Black Talon, only without the coating.

The RMR 124's aren't made by Jake. He buys those from someone else and just markets them. I didn't ask him who they were made by, though.

Snuffy tried the Berry's HHP's in a previous session. IMHO, his velocity readings were probably in excess of the bullet's design parameters; fragmentation in the wax test media employed.

Fred, what's your ideal velocity for the HHP that yielded the good expansion without fragmentation?

I know I do! :)

I tested the Berry's HHP's just for accuracy this weekend, but did not see any accurate results yet. My feeling is that I am pushing it too hard since the recommended velocity is only 1100 fps.

I used the Berry's Hybrid in the 9x19, .40 S&W and .45 acp. I kept the velocities within the suggested range printed on the boxes, since Jay told me that was where they got their best results when developing them. If you don't overdrive them, they perform as advertised, but again, my testing was very limited.

Hope this helps.

Fred

PS: Right now, I'm working on finding "the load" for a 9x23 conversion for a Ruger Blackhawk. I'm going to have to find some time to break out the Pact Professional Chronograph and spend some real time on the range, rather than short sessions. There aren't many 9mm bullets that will hold up to the velocities the 9x23 develops, so I'm pretty much sticking with FMJ bullets in my initial tests. Even with FMJ, they're almost unrecognizable when dug out of the berm. So many projects, so little time..........

Fred,

Thanks for the information. I will probably then just go the 9mm route and load them to around 1100fps. I was a bit concerned when I tested them since 2 of my chrono readings showed error. I hardly have any chrono errors, so it was strange it showed up with the HHP's. It will probably be safer to go with a lower velocity.
