What is the largest pair (not necessarily same mfg) of Rifle and Pistol ?
Pistol can be wheel guns or semi auto.
Rifle can be bolt, lever, semi.

I can think of .22 | 9mm | .40 | .38/.357
I think someone made a .454 Casule lever gun.

Always thought it would be a good idea to have a pair that shared form the same box.

RTFM

No longer made, but the Marlin Camp .45 . . . uses 1911 mags too, so not only feeds from the same box but mags would be interchangeable if you carry a 1911.

44 Magnum - Many wheelguns, Ruger makes a semi-auto carbine

.30 Carbine - Ruger makes (or made) a revolver, M1 Carbine rifle

Those are repeaters. If you are talking single shot you can get either pistol or rifle chambered in almost anything with guns like the Encore.

hmmm good point DMK.
Let's amend this to more than one round available in each item.

Yup that's one pair also.
Now let's go in the other direction, what's the largest pair commercially available with both possessing more than one shot each?

Henry rifles makes a lever action in both .45 colt and .44 mag. Would this work?

.500 S&W
I just found the Wild West Guns - Model 04 .500 S&W/454 lever action rifle

http://www.wildwestguns.com/EStore/MasterGuideOrder/WWG04/wwg04.html

Which naturally goes with S&W's .500 revolvers.
Don't think we go much bigger then the .500

g5 I was just pondering the largest pair available. They all work so to speak, it's just me wondering what it the largest pair you can lay your mitts on.... is all.

I'd think the largest pair possible would be a Maddi-Griffin pistol and any .50 BMG rifle, although that breaks the 'better than a single shot each' rule.

I have a Rossi 92 Win clone....

in 45 Colt and a Ruger Bisley in 45 Colt to go with it. I have each gun in 357 too. they are fun to shoot and accurate....chris3

About that Marlin

True, Marlin no longer makes the Camp .45 but there are still .45 ACP carbines being made -- Beretta, in addition to its 9mm and .40 cal versions, does its CX4 carbine in .45 ACP.

I'm not sure if Ruger does the PC rifle in .45 or not, though I have seen it in .40 cal.

The .30 Carbine revolvers (Ruger & Taurus) are very loud and have large muzzle flash.

Probably the largest manageable combo with the greatest hitting power will be the .44 mag revolver/carbine.

There are bigger guns (the .45-70 mentioned above), and even rifle-calibre pistols out there (e.g. Kel-tec), but in my estimation the largest viable combo will be the .44 magnum.

The .45 Colt and .45 ACP are physically larger, but the .44 mag is the hitter.

If you're just looking for size, I'd say it doesn't get much better than mustanger98's .45-70 (all due respect to the .50 BMG).

I've got a Winchester Model 94 in .44 magnum, matched up with a Ruger Redhawk. Just the other night I was in Cabela's and saw a Henry something or other lever action chambered for .45 Long Colt. That would match up with my Taurus Judge. :D

I just looked back at the OP... he said "largest pair"; not "most viable". That, to my knowledge and sticking with the rule of more than one shot, means Marlin levergun and Magnum Research BFR, both in .45-70.

BTW, I have the rifle/revolver combos in .44, .45, and .357 too. They're great and all, but where's the OP going and how big is the problem? Use enough gun.

.45 Colt Trapper and Blackhawk is my combination. It is more powerful than .44 mag with the right ammo - I can't imagine trying to shoot the .454 through something light like a Backhawk.

If you want something that takes the same magazines...

There's the Kel tec sub 2000 that can be had in glock, S&W, Beretta, and SIG. They come in either 9mm or .40.

Beretta makes the SX4 storm which shares mags with one of their pistols.

and Ruger makes the PC9 and PC40 that share mags with their pistols.

Also there are AK and AR "pistols" that take the same caliber and mags as their fully stocked brethren.

and at one time there was a .30 carbine pistol that was basically a pistol gripped m1 carbine with a short barrel. It too takes the same mags as the carbine

Mech tech makes carbine top ends for glocks and 1911's which would give you mag compatibility as well.

I'm sure there are others...

Hey everyone, thank you for the replies...... never thought the thread would garnish so many replies.

Thank you for your help.

If you are lookign to buy a new pair of guns, then 9mm, .40 or .357 would be the calibers that are most comfortable for most shooters.

If you already have a pistol or two, pick the caliber you find the most fun and go from there... especially since if nothing else this thread has determined there is no shortage of good options.

Largest caliber Pistol would be a howda in .577 or a 12 gauge, and a nice double to pair it.

Most powerfull would be either:

the .50 BMG Pistol (Maadi Griffin?) and a .50 Rifle.

or a .600 Ntiroexpress Revolver and a matching double rifle.

The energy of the Revolver is 6230 joule or about 9000 fp.

I don't have a clocking for the .50.

You might also consider a 40mm Grenade Pistol:

and maybe a fitting rifle:

Oh yes, if you want it for practical use, a .44 Magum revolver and a Lever Gun or a Ruger Deerhunter makes most sense, as the .44 will give you close to normal rifle power from a rifle.

.454. I don't see this as practical, though. I'm not a recoil sissy, but the recoil of a handgun in this caliber is more than I look foward to. I do have a .44 Magnum Marlin '94 and a Ruger Superblackhawk and I have dedicated loads for each. I feel the utility of rifle/hangun combinations died with the Old West. If you want a rifle, get a rifle. If you want a handgun, get a handgun. Many will probably disagree with me....Essex

I've got the BFR and Marlin lever gun in 450 Marlin. Both are an absolute joy to shoot.
