Okay, So the better half has decided that she in fact want's a revolver chambered in .357. After letting her shoot my GP-100, this was her conclusion. Of course, I let her shoot a .22 LR, 9mm, 38 Spcl, .357 Mag, .45 ACP, and.40 S&W.

She likes the recoil of it and wants something kinda small. I explained to her that smaller usually means more recoil. She understand that and is fine with it. She was looking at some '2-'3 BBL revolvers. At the pawn shop she liked the Taurus M85 Ultra Lite in black. Also looked at the Charter Arms in 44 Spcl DAO only. I asked her if she wants one with hammer or without. She prefers hammer.

Now this is the catch, She wants it pink. All of it.
Grips and frame a like to be pink and I have no idea where to find an all pink revolver really...I know duracoating is an option but don't know anyone in South Georgia that can do that.

I would like for other members who helped their better half getting their first firearms to chime in please. She nor I are really set on any certain mfgr firearm. She is willing to try out a few at the LGS when she goes.

My only experience is with the Ruger GP-100.
I know a lot of people on here really like the older S&W.
The limit I have is around $400 for it. Any suggestions?

My mom's Charter Arms "Pink Lady" is, well, pink. Her's is .38, though. I'm not sure if they make that model chambered for .357 or not. Worth a look.

Another option is to find the perfect gun for her, regardless of color. Once you've done that, send it out to someone like GOE gun works (http://goegunworks.com/20201.html) and have them do something sweet to it, like pink digital camo ;).

You best let her try shooting .357 in snub nose revolvers. She may change her mind about recoil/flash/noise. Someone above said find the gun first, then worry about the color. That is pretty good advice.

I can not imagine anyone wanting a gun in pink...

What does that do to trade-in or resale value?

Some people buy guns to enjoy, and not as investments.
Guns aren't good investments. Bonds and gold are.

Girls like pink, dunno why, they just do. If they also enjoy guns, they might want to "prettify" it, just like they do our bathrooms. Hence, pink guns.

SalmonEye,

I have no idea, Lol. But this is her gun and just like me, I want it the way I want so the same rule can apply to her can't it?

Au Prospector,

The Ruger GP-100 she shot is a '3 BBL. She prefers them because IIRC there more nicer and femenin. I explained to her function over cosmetics is a better approach. She said " Thats why your helping me"
What a gonna do? And BTW, Since more women are coming into the sport, I think pink may be justified a bit lol.

Smalls,

Thank you for the link!

No problem. They aren't the only place, or the only finish option. There are probably hundreds of places to get a pink coating done, but I like the options GOE offers.

IIRC, the price isn't that bad, either. My wife wants to get an M&P slide coated purple :)rolleyes:), so we looked into it.

Some people are just a glutton for punishment :D. My mom almost exclusively shoots very hot +P loads out of that .38 snubby she has.

Wow...That is a profound revelation right up there with "No matter how much you may dislike pickles, it is after all, the only thing you can do with cucumbers...".

:p

My question was not one of 'investment' for profit, it was one of 'holding value'...

I am a staunch believer in the individual right to purchase and enjoy anything that one wishes (legally)...

I simply can not see a huge resale market if one chooses to later sell a 'pink' gun, without taking a pretty good hit on it...

And to you Josh45, I say get her the pink gun if that's what makes her happy...

Certainly was not trying to change your mind, I was simply stating the first thoughts that came to mine...

My wife loves her pink and stainless too, and my plan one day is to just steal one of her guns and return it pink cerakoated.

If it makes her happy, buy her a pink gun. My little sister keeps a pink Crickett next to her .357 Stainless Redhawk.

My 10 year old daughter points them out to laugh at when we go to the gun show to wander around.

They're both entitled to their own opinions.

Salmon, what if they sell it to another girl? One thing I was reading on the oft-linked ammo FAQ on AR15.net is that in a snub revolver, you don't get much out of going with a .357 over a .38 except recoil and muzzle flash/blast. I haven't seen actual chronos myself to know much of a difference.

I work for the government, this kind of thing happens to me all day long. Just tell her your working on it. In four to five years she'll start to see the challenge. In the end you'll get lots of trips to the gun store, searching for the pink gun. It'll be right next to the unicorns and the Loch Ness monster.

I do know that hogue makes a pink replacement grip. I believe it says it's for a s&w but could possibly fit other guns.

My wife's charter arms pink lady hurts my hand more with .38s than my sp101 with full house .357s. Could be because the ruger weighs over twice as much.

Remarkable how many of us aren't willing to get their own wives something they'll like. We're wondering why they won't go shooting with us why?

I fail to see a difference between a fancy camo-cerakote job and a pink one, but hey, what do I know?

Why does it matter what she wants or what color it is? Just help her make an informed purchase and enjoy this great hobby together with her at the range. Besides a handgun in my opinion is way more usefull than some shiny rock that most women want. The best thing i ever did was to teach mine how to reload! Down side to that is now I get stuck doing laundry occasionally. (does anyone know of a dryer that has a FOLD mode on it?)

Thank you everyone for your opinions and suggestions. The links help out quite a bit. I showed her some and she is excited about getting it done all pink like the one GOE shows.

Charter Arms Pink Lady with .38 +P would be a handful for recoil and muzzle flash, so might satisfy the need. Along with pink grips have her look at the scrimshaw gallery at altamontco.com. They do an ivory grip available with an extensive list of scrimshaw. My wife hates pink but wanted her GP100 "chickified" and went small Lett grips with ivory panels with rosebuds on them. She LOVES her revolver (she actually used that word). She also has gold .357 case head earrings, a rose colored Ruger hat, and a t-shirt that says "Why yes, I do shoot like a girl." and a lavender trap vest. Girls are into bling and socializing. Go with it, and you will have a shooting buddy for life. Resist. . .at your peril!

Wife here likes pink as well. M&P15-22 pink camo to prove it. Hey, anything that I can do to divert attention from what other items may (or may not) be lurking deeper in the vault.

That Charter Arms Pink Lady is about as pink of a revolver as I've seen. While .357 Mag is formidable, I'd rather have a 38 Special in my pocket so that I'm not completely deaf and blinded should it ever have to be deployed in low-light situations. I find 357 to be about as loud as it gets for a cartridge, especially from a snub.

Mama aint happy, aint nobody happy

Whatever you do, do what the Lady says. As far as model goes I'm no help maybe get her a good gun and find some Pink after market grips as opposed to getting a gun just because it has pink grips........
