The Chicago Saga Continues

As long as the voting majority of that city keep re-electing that "guy" ( trying desperately to be High Road ), I doubt there is any hope. But that is just my opinion.

Why don't they just vote him out? :neener: Anyone from Chicago that reads this I feel your pain.;)

Well, I think the tide may be turning. This is a great column, and in the Chicago Trib no less! I think the people in Chicago have finally had enough of the hypocritical nonsense that Daley and his council (whose members, by the way, are exempt from gun bans) have been shoving at them for years.

The mayor is expected to demand registration of all handguns, mandatory training for gun owners and a limit of one handgun per person. This last novel idea comes from Corporation Counsel Mara Georges, who according to The Associated Press "says the court ruled people can have a gun for protection, but didn't say they're allowed more than one."
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Arms - plural.

Its one sentence. How hard it it to understand? :banghead:

It's impossible for a leftist to understand anything but monoploy of power. What some ancient rag has printed on it is of less importance than todays poll numbers. Rights are for those who can afford to exercise them. Bass ackwards of Leona Helmsly, "Guns are for the wealthy and connected people, not the little people."
If he actually picked up a criminal charge and went to jail over this, I would be stunned. And celebrating. He would be in PC in less than 30 seconds. :)

This Taylor Swift person seems scary if she can only go for "months" without shooting people. Then again, in Chicago that would make her a pacifist. ;)

Anyway, I'm kind of surprised that an article with this point of view would be allowed in a Chicago newspaper. I'm not joking this time.

When the USSC starts having men like Daly and DC Police Chief for Comtempt of Court, then they will change thier tune. I would love to see Federal Marshalls cuff Daly and take him to a Federal Lockup.

Its one sentence. How hard it it to understand?
I ask myself this, every time I find myself in a debate, here on a pro-gun forum, with fellow RKBA'ers who think it wise to give the enemy of our freedom a victory now and then.

Wow, I don't know who Steve Chapman is, but the man can sure write a clear and coherent column. Wish he'd run for Mayor of Chickenago.

Steve Chapman has always been somewhat pro-gun and is sort of the Chicago Tribunes resident iconoclast. Therefore his column does not represent a change in the Trib - the paper is still essentially pro-gun control - they just like to occasionally critisize Daley and some of his policies.

As for the cities proposed new regulations - wow - they really don't get it - they are begging for a smack down. I have always had a hard time understanding the arrogance of those in power - I guess part of it must be an attitude that somehow since they know they are right - that the ends justify the means. Be nice to have more public servants and less self styled rulers in this country.

Another Chicago Tribune Columnist Agrees . . .

John Kass begins his article with the following:

As Independence Day approaches, let's remember that our Founding Fathers created a marvelous document to protect individual freedoms from the aggressions of government.

We call this the Constitution.

But along The Chicago Way, there is another text, full of decrees. The dusty scroll must be buried deep in a vault at City Hall, because few, if any, have ever seen it.

Kass is Daley's nemesis in more ways than this, but he also goes after the Republicans when they deserve it (which is often). Anyway, those who read the Tribune are getting a fair amount of pro-2A commentary, though not all of the Tribune's columnists agree. As I said in another thread, the sentiment that I'm hearing is, if not consistently pro-gun, at least anti-gun control. It's widely recognized that Chicago's all-out gun ban hasn't done a bit of good.
