Another item that never comes up in this discussion if the fact that the Federal government has made it illegal to cross state lines to purchase a gun. Even in private sales the purchaser is required to reside in the same state as the seller. Again, it is not a matter of lax laws but a matter of lax enforcement.

Which in turn is clear evidence that the law isn't WORTH enforcing. That is, it doesn't have any effect on crime at all.

If it did, Rahm Emmanual and others like him would be DEMANDING the law be enforced.

That of course presumes that they're trying to keep guns out of CRIMINAL hands, when it's manifestly obvious that they have OTHER intentions...

For an interesting analysis of gun numbers and violence, go to YouTube, search for Bill Whittle and watch his video called, "First with a Bullet".

Cook and Ludwig, hardly shrills for the NRA, tried their best to show that the 1968 GCA and the Brady Bill accomplished something. They were unable to:

BTW if anyone has time on their hands and is bored, Cook & Ludwig also did a study on the black market in Chicago: http://home.uchicago.edu/ludwigj/papers/EJ_gun_markets_2007.pdf

Well, yeah, I agree with you. So let me re-phrase that:

"Which in turn is clear evidence that the law isn't WORTH enforcing. That is, it doesn't have any effect on crime at all.

If it did, COMPETENT, HONEST mayors and other officials would be DEMANDING the law be enforced."
