"The Great New Orleans Gun Grab-Descent Into Anarchy".....The book that had to be written, was written and published recently by Gordon Hutchinson & Todd Masson. It is available at Louisiana Publishing, The Louisiana Conservative and Amazon.com for $19.95.

I do not usually come on The High Road and recommend things, but this book is a must read for gun owners. If you think you know what happened in New Orleans from the media reports and the gun forums......Guess what.......You don't know the half of it. I have given a small taste of what is contained in this book in a recent blog piece, but I urge everyone here to order a copy, as well as a copy for a gun owning friend in denial. Try to get your local gun store to order some copies to sell across the counter. Give it as Christmas gifts to those you know. Let folks on other forums know of it's availability. It is a tremendous book, revealing in many ways, not only of what occured, but it is also revealing in regards to the reality of facing armed confiscations.

If you don't read this book, you might think you know what happened, but you have only seen the surface!

I am openly critical of most actions of any given government, but I have never in my life been as angry as I was when I heard what was going on in NOLA. I will certainly be ordering this book.

I will be giving one to a hunting mentor. He is an excellent man, an expert woodsman and life long hunter who was in total denial of the threat prior to Katrina/Rita. Unfortunately he is still wobbly. Perhaps Gordon will succeed where I have failed.

One other thing. If anyone thinks this is an aberration specific to one geographic location or political party, think again.

I read it and second Xavier. Think you're safe? Think nothing bad will ever happen to you or in your area? If this book doesn't make you rethink your position and get your blood boiling then nothing will.

This thread is here to inform gun owners of the presence of a recently published book documenting the details of what happened in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. Many of the facts have never been made public. Many of the confiscations have never before been published. The aftermath endured by those who resisted confiscation has not been published. The reality of facing gun confiscations by force is not really understood by many people who think they understand what occured.

It is imperative that we have well established laws to prevent repeat occurances, that we prosecute those responsible, and that we are proactive in preventing even the idea of mass confiscations after a disaster from ever occuring again. First though, we must understand what really happened. Gordon Hutchinson's book illuminates events that we have only had glimpses of before.

There are many lessons to be drawn from this book. I advise you to order the book and read it. It may be the best twenty bucks you will ever spend as a gun owner. If you have been following the events on the internet, if you know nothing of the events, or even if you were there in NOLA assisting in some capacity or trying to get out, the overall picture is one that is difficult to fully appreciate.

This thread was not started and stickied to rehash the events of the NOLA gun confiscations. If you want to start another thread on the NOLA confiscations, go ahead. It has been discussed here ad nauseum. A search might be advisable if you are simply looking for information. If you can bring anything new to the discussion, start a new thread. If you simply want to beat your chest, then there are other venues for that activity. This thread is about Gordon's book. Future posts that are not about the book will be deleted.

I'll pass...I don't want to read about how everybody gave up their guns.

No, thank you!

The author spoke at this year's Gun Rights Policy Conference. I have been planning on buying his book. It will be a great book if it is half as good as his speech.

Gave up their guns?

Many of them were wrestled to the floor at gunpoint and cuffed while their legally owned weapons were stolen from them never to be seen again.

And they said that US LEOs would never support confiscation. This is a wake up call for all of us.

You're kidding, right? I interviewed some of the same people whose stories are in this book.
Their firearms were taken at gunpoint, they were often handcuffed, Patricia Konie was gang tackled so hard that her shoulder was dislocated, attorney Ashton O'Dwyer was held incommunicado for hours, during which he was physically injured.

This was a trampling of the constitution and a travesty. Read the book.

And when you're done, pass it along to a friend, and then read my book (with Alan Gottlieb) called "America Fights Back" It's about people who don't "give up their guns."

I'd love to read it, but I'm just so angry these days. Don't know if I could take it. :-(

I'm about half way through it. If you haven't ordered your copy yet, you should!

Some of the stories are downright scary to a gun owner.

Can anyone sort of give some cliffs notes in this thread?
I won't be able to get the book for a while, and would love to know some of the points it makes and general stories it tells

Denali, the reality of facing gun confiscations during drawn out chaos and anarchy is that you are only able to exercise your rights if you are alive.

Confiscations were imposed not only on citizens of New Orleans, but also on people from the surrounding countryside. People who thought, just like you, that they had a steely will and a cold dead hands attitude. These people no more allowed themselves to be disarmed than a woman allows herself to be raped, or a person allows themselves to be murdered.

Your statements show that you do not fully appreciate the reality of confiscations at gunpoint, and that is exactly why you should read the book.

Nightwing, I gave a quick synopsis of the first chapter here. I don't want to give a Cliff Notes version of the entire publication, since Gordon deserves to sell the book he has worked on for two years.

The book is $20. It will ship anywhere. You can order it online. Take some money you would have spent on ammunition and buy the book. It will give you the ammunition to convert many, many fence sitters, nay-sayers and chest beaters. We will not keep our firearms and our rights with cold dead hands posturing. We will keep them through the understanding of what actually occured, and legislative and judicial action. That is the lesson of the events after Katrina.

OK, so the book will wake us up; it will scare us; it will make us angry ( or angirer).

But, will it suggest remedial action? How can we prevent this from happening again? (and don't say, "more laws" if the primary thrust is that existing laws were ignored or broken! And don't say "bring these perps to justice." That's the responsibility of those who were actually wronged. If they can't or won't, there's nothing I can do, book or no book.)

So, tell me again why I should buy this book?

Albert

One attorney lost his guns, and was held in a cage. While in there (in handcuffs), police officers shot him with beanbag rounds. That is not giving up, that is having them taken.

I read the book. I can't believe what those cops did. It is like a third world country. I am ashamed to admit that I am from NOLA.

Just received my copy of the book. I ordered it on Fri. 12/14 and I received it today , Tues. from Amazon. Fast Shipping !!! Can't wait to start reading it tonight. I'll give my opinion in a few days.

Who are the authors? Are the cases in the book documented? If I point out things from the book to people, their first question will be "How do you know its true?". I need to have an answer for them.

NewShooter, if you look at the first post of this thread you will see the authors are Gordon Hutchinson & Todd Masson. The cases are well documented.

Money is tight for me right now and what little discretionary money I have is earmarked for some items that will make me just a little more secure. Can someone us some more info from the book.
Not that I'm trying to screw someone out of their livelihood/royalties. But from what little I have read of this thread, it seems like a much bigger issue than that and we should all be as educated as possible.

Also, what is the alternative to having your guns taken?
Meaning you either comply or you don't, right?
So how exactly do you go about not complying while still not facing criminal charges or having a shootout with police?
