Have any of you guys actually tried to group wolf ammo? Don't guess I want some real results

Which offering sold under the Wolf name are you inquiring about? 7.62X39, 7.5X55 Swiss, etc., please let us know.

I went to a rifle course and used wolf a bit for the easier parts, and i managed some 2 MOA groups out to 400yd. (this was using a match grade AR in .223) I found that the HP ammo was MUCH more consistant than the FMJ.

Only once have I actually tried to for groups using Wolf. A couple months back, I benched my AK74 at 50 yrds to see what kind of groups my WASR-2 was capable of. I shot three 5-shot groups, the best of which was just under 2 inches. The worst was about 3 inches. I haven't yet had the chance to try it at 100 yards, but I imagine the groups would open up a bit.

I will say though that I was surprised the rifle shot that well...after all it is an AK, lol.

Ammo used was 70 gr. FMJ Military Classic

I like Wolf fine-- seems sort of dirty in all I have shot (caliber wise), but it always when bang--- I was suprised to shoot a box of Remington (green box) .45 ACP and to discover that it was the dirtiest ammo I have shot (it seemed). I also have some beige boxed Russian 9x19 (military?) with Cyrillic writing on it, looks sort of like Wolf, but shoots great-- not sure if it is corrosive, so I only shot a couple of boxes and canned the rest up in my cache---

Wolf is fine with me--- not match grade, but then again, neither am I.. :p

What kind of Wolf? Wolf Match Target .22 is the shiznizzle. It doesn't so much group as poke a single hole with multiple shots, from my CZ 452 and a couple of other rifles.

Hard primers, corrosion problems, powder is dirty as all get out, many of the rounds have STEEL projectiles with copper plating or copper wash on the outside,
Berdan primed so the cases aren't easily re-loadable...
Quality control is a problem since you may get one batch that cycles fine, but the next box causes problems...

^ wolf ammo is not corosive, and has been tested by many users.

I've never had a dud, so I've not seen quality control issues, and I've shot thousands of them.

IMO they are great for the AK. It's not a concern for those of us with real rifles :).

Wolf ammo is not corrosive.

But it has horrid quality control. I dislike shooting it from my AR. It actually 'groups' better in my AK in x39 than my AR can group .223. I've had .223 wolf group anywhere from about 1/2" to 1.5" at 30 yards

AK's are not nearly as inaccurate as typical Internet lore makes them out to be. As has been pointed out elsewhere, the single greatest factor resulting in AK inaccuracy is operator error/carelessness, not the mechanical limitations of the platform.

The primers are supposed to be hard, at least in 7.62x39mm and 5.45x39mm. Using soft U.S.-market civilian primers in an SKS or AK is unwise from a safety standpoint, as those primers are out-of-spec with regard to the platform and will increase the risk of slamfires. I have never heard of an AK slamfire resulting from soft primers, but I have heard of several in the SKS.

Steel cases are not reloadable, so whether they are Berdan or Boxer primed is not really an issue. The primary market for Wolf is for people like me who don't reload, I suspect; there are plenty of more expensive alternatives out there with reloadable brass.

I have never seen any corrosive Wolf, and rumors to the contrary are many years old. I kept few fired Wolf steel cases in humid Florida just to see if the insides would rust (which they would if corrosive priming were used), and they never did.

Importation of steel-core 7.62x39mm was banned in 1994. It is still legal for calibers larger than .308, but I've never seen any. Many Wolf calibers use a bimetal jacket, but the alloy is quite soft and does not cause excess barrel wear, unless one is in the habit of bumpfiring and posting videos on Youtube.

real rifle? the ak has it's ups and downs but overall it's a very good package not to mention all the variants and that half the world uses them. this is as real as it gets. sorry if this is off topic.

we've had really good results with wolf 7.62x39 sp and fairly good accuracy at 100 yards from both ak and sks variant. i was vary pleased. the .223 being fired from an ar platform, mines seems to handle the military classic better than other cheap ammo. i notice the primer a little bigger and swallow them with now problem. yes it burns really dirty so now i use umc and ultramax.

OK this is stupid I think I already know a sass will shoot better groups than an ak. you people just jabber on, I will forget i ever posted this

I've shot Wolf when I was a beginner and didn't know any better. I quit using it when I decided that I can shoot better with my rifle as long as I have a better ammo. The groups I was getting with my Savage 16FXP3 , 223 were mostly around an inch at 50 yards with 55gr fmj, but I had some lucky groups under. Than I discovered 62 grain ammo and the groups went down to .5 - 1 inch @50 yards.
I haven't tried it past 50 yards.
I think this ammo is good for people who are getting familiar with shooting . They should use cheap ammo until they decide it's the ammo and not them being lousy shooters.

My two SKS rifles will keep groups around 3-5" at a hundred if I am having a good day. When I get bigger groups I blame myself. I think the rifles and ammo are better than that. The sights are a problem also. They are very basic and allow for a little bit of error.

I hope this helps you a little. The best thing to do is buy all the different kinds in the caliber you are using and do a test. Wolf may be the best and then again maybe not. I will say I have never had a single malfunction with wolf. None with the steel core norinco either for that matter. I have also shot Monarch but only at 50 yards or less.

I did that test once with a Ruger single six 22 and it was a real eye opener about ammo and guns needing to be matched up.

Hey buddy, you're the one who asked the question. Go shoot it and you tell us how it groups.

OK, here are some pics of groups with Wolf ammo, from other THR threads:

Vepr, 100 yards, Wolf (I think that's either a 5.45x39 or a .223)

WASR, 100 yards rested, Wolf

SAR-1, 200 yards, Wolf 154gr SP, top group sitting and braced, bottom group from a rest

And I don't have any pics, but my groups with Wolf 123gr out of my SAR-1 generally run 3 to 5 MOA.
