The Demorats are cooking up another bill to ban suppressors

Kaine Joins Menendez, Colleagues to Introduce Bill to Outlaw Gun Silencers

    https://www.kaine.senate.gov/press-...ues-to-introduce-bill-to-outlaw-gun-silencers

Kinda reminds me of the "duck and cover" for atomic weapons

“The sound of gunshots is what tells you that your life is danger, and that it’s time to run, hide, take cover, call the police and help others save themselves."

    add the usual statements:

“This legislation is a commonsense proposal that will save lives.”

“The only people who could reasonably oppose a ban on gun silencers are criminals trying to avoid detection by law enforcement or mass murderers trying to hurt as many people as possible,” Sen. Blumenthal said. “Whether a firearm is being used in a mugging or a massacre, the sound of a gunshot is a warning that helps bystanders get to safety and allows law enforcement to track and apprehend the shooter.”

"Banning silencers won’t eliminate gun violence, but this is a reform that would help law enforcement locate active shooters and save more lives,” Sen. Kaine said.

Yeah i saw that. I wonder how many of those pushing the law have ever heard a suppressed firearm discharge. Indoors it is still deafening, even subsonic.

The bill is just another stick they can poke in our eye. I suspect Menendez in particular is making a statement, rather than expecting a law to be passed successfully.

I didn't realize so many criminals were running around with suppressed guns committing crimes. [/sarcasm]

I find it interesting that there is no grandfather provision in this proposal for the 1.5 million (according to the article) registered silencers. All that is being proposed is a "buyback," which, if the recent New Zealand experience is any indication, would compensate only a fraction of the value.

This is really bad precedent for registered machine gun owners. With this mentality, they could lose everything overnight.

It's always the "usual suspects" among the legislators who rush to introduce such things without the slightest knowledge of what they're talking about. To them, if it has to do with guns, it's bad.

Remember that only two years ago, there was optimism that the Hearing Protection Act would deregulate suppressors entirely. Now, we've come full circle and a bill is being introduced to ban them entirely.

Just last week I had a customer tell me that he’d always wanted a silencer but he was holding out for the HPA to pass. I’m guessing he doesn’t follow the news real closely...

Anytime a politician says it is "common sense," it is time for you to run and hide. Ninety eight percent of the time it is NOT common sense.

    SHE'S BAAAACK!!!
“Dangerous gun silencers, like the one used in the Virginia Beach shooting earlier this month that killed 12, don’t belong in our communities,” said Sen. Feinstein.'' Frankie has spoken...FIRE BAAAD! hehe Well, except for HER Security detail and whatever fits in HER purse.

I wonder if President Borders:cool: has commented on this, seeing he blurbed lukewarm ''support'' for it previous.

    Is there a nexus:scrutiny:?

Most of mine are on form 1’s, If the only thing I cannot buy on this earth is more time, how much should I be compensated for that?

I imagine most wouldn’t care, just like the bumpstocks. They will only squeal when they take their over/under or 30-30. By then they will be too small of a group to matter. Like the bumpstock guy’s were.

On the flip side when are they going to require vehicles to make more noise?

They keep making them quieter all the time and they will kill more people in this country before lunch today than have been killed using legally obtained suppressors, used in an illegal manner in decades.

I'm guessing you've never been around a suppressed weapon being fired. They are NOT silent. They still have a report but it is much abated. Please see if someone in your area has a suppressor and let you fire it. Wish you luck.

I don't advocate anyone doing anything illegal but how does the ATF catch most illegal or not taxed suppressors? Don't own one and till they are no longer taxed won't own one. Uncle sugar doesn't need to know every little thing I do. So I'll just not buy or make one, simple.

The VAST majority of victimless illegal activities go unnoticed/unfound. From smoking dope, to shooting illegal fireworks, to sharing media. I would argue there are a ton of shooters out there who through sheer ignorance of the law have illegal AOW’s or SBR/SBS. 922R violations are everywhere at the range. Etc.

Point is they don’t but when you are caught, especially in conjunction with doing some real crime your butt is in a sling.

I obsess over following the law yet chuckle every time I see a stocked Glock, forward hand grip on a pistol etc. etc. as I know these folks are not nefarious evil doers just folks ignorant of the law having fun.

That was obviously a joke. And a pretty good one, I might add.

The HEAR Act is S.1943 - A bill to regulate firearm silencers and firearm mufflers.
    Introduced on 6/24/2019.
You can follow its progress at
    https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/1943?s=1&r=2
and on that page we learn the following:
"As of 06/26/2019 text has not been received for S.1943 - A bill to regulate firearm silencers and firearm mufflers.

Bills are generally sent to the Library of Congress from GPO, the Government Publishing Office, a day or two after they are introduced on the floor of the House or Senate. Delays can occur when there are a large number of bills to prepare or when a very large bill has to be printed."

and that Senator Menendez's co-sponsors are Senator Feinstein, CA; Senatore Blumenthal, CT; and Senator Kaine, VA.

I would imagine it’s something that is added on as additional charges to other crimes.

As I said above most of mine are on form 1’s (aka homemade), the only time I have ever been asked about paper work was from people curious about the process, never a single time by LEO wanting to make sure they are legal.

That said, I always keep copies with me and would never even hint at suggesting breaking the law as the penalty for violation is the loss of all of your gun rights and then some.

Funny how some "progressive" European nations allow ownership and use of suppressors.

There seems to be no account for proportionality when these "safety" and "common sense" gun control measures are introduced. There ought to be some minimum standard reasonable people subscribe to before they go all up in arms about wanting to regulate something into almost non existence or outright ban something.
The sheer number of law abiding people out there that are armed against the number of people that use their weapons to harm innocents or commit crime is so low, it ought to count for something, but it doesnt seem to. Neither does the number of people who use their weapon to defend their lives seem to matter to anyone in the anti crowd.
Nope, and the same could be said for suppressors, 50,000,000 people could own these and if 5 idiots go out and wreak havoc with em they want an outright ban.

Most people do not know the base rate of most things. They have no idea of the legal owner base. Next a vivid instance leads people to overestimate the occurrence of the vivid events.

That's already the case in the E.U. - electric cars will be required to produce at least 56dB when the car is moving at least 20 kph (~12 mph).

    https://futurism.com/the-byte/electric-vehicles-noises-evs

And it seems they're working to bring the rule here, too.

I think alot of legislation like this isnt neccessarily a wily way to spit in the eye of gun owners...so much as like almost being random attempts to appease the liberal whiners in the voting base. It makes the whiners feel they are being listened to and something is being done. The average liberal anti gun voter is so ignorant they really believe it and tnink theyve found an administration worthy of their grievances.

Since so many gun manufacturers are in Blue states, and stock in firearms companies skyrocket under democrat leadership, I really wonder if much of it is just a game. But I dont deny that we are still getting spit on either way.
