I have some questions about this video and if it is possible to do this with a shoulder fired high-caliber weapon, such as the .50BMG that the video suggests.

First, the video.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5820322807673807576&q=50+cal+sniper&hl=en

Alright, are these humans? Is this video real?

And, is it possible for this gun to just make a human being just explode like that? Is it possible for any shoulder-fired weapon (no grenade launchers or anything like that) to make you lift up off the ground, fly several feet, and leave you disemboweled?

Thanks for any input.

I've seen the video before but don't know if the targets are people. Those meat chunks flying from the projectile's impact is a little menacing, along with the shooter's whistle at the end.

Not human, critter in nature. Explode? Well, yes you have a 750 grain bullet going about the speed of an '06. Pieces are coming off. Just like shooting a man in the head with a .308. Or, better, analogy hitting a man with a 25mm. My cousin shot a few Iraqis with a 25mm. Pieces come off a man.

The video looks like billies are shooting marmots or something way out West.

Was the 25mm shoulder-fired? And, is it possible to make a man do the exact same things those rock chucks were doing with a BMG?

no the 25mm that he speaks of is most likly from a BFV, the same vehicles i was a gunner for in Iraq, very nice, and devistating chainguns those m242 bushmaster's. there is a 25mm sniper rifle in the making though, by barret, i don't know when it is to come out but they are working on it. I still would like to know how much of a "sniper rifle" it will be, but if you use sabot you won't have to exaxtly hit them in an absolut vital spot!:)

It's been debunked here previously several times.

It's an old vid of varment shooters killing rock chucks.

Texasguy, this isn't directed at you, but I just don't don't get why someone takes a vid and attaches a BS story to it to put out on the net.:banghead:

Hey Possum, I read an article on the 25mm sniper rifle and its not the same round we use in the Brad. Its like a big MK 19 round.

I dont think you could use the Brads 25mm in a shoulder fired weapon. I remember being next to a Brad in a defilade outside of Carbala. When he started firing on the T-54, the muzzle blast out of the compensator knocked me off my feet.

Also, I have seen peolpe shot with the BMG and while it will take off chunks and limbs, people dont explode like that unless its with something like the 25mm.

Does anyone else see the grim reaper in the last scene? :scrutiny: Seriously....the rock formation looks like an robed reaper with a its left hand coming around.

Humans don't have fur!

Jesh. This video is fast approaching the infamous "man eating bear" photos as most outrageous net myth.

And one more thing:

Is it possible for any of these calibers to make a man explode and fling limbs everywhere? Range would be a general sniping/self defense scenario. 300 yards tops. Would these calibers have the same effect on man of >160lbs as the chucks?

7mm Magnum
7mm Ultra Mag
.458 Winchester Magnum
.460 Weatherby Magnum
.475 Linebaugh
.475 A&M Magnum

I know this sounds very contemplative, but this is just a discussion going on different forum ;)

Never trust the descriptions of stuff on youtube and google video. There's two videos floating around that always get described as "Iraqis learn to shoot" or "Terrorist falls over shooting gun" and stuff like that. Truth is, it's a guy I know who, as a practical joke, gives first time shooters a .577 Tyrannosaur and tells them there's no kick on it. :D Just so happens that some of the guys he taped were Asian.

Those are the famous Accurate Arms videos. They knew they were shooting the T-Rex, so it wasn't a practical joke. My favorite is the one of the German guy who soaks it up, puts the rifle down and commences a long string of Germanic curses while hopping around :D

So does anybody know anything about my question above?

The .50 cal round is four times heavier than a .30 cal round and 10 times heavier than a .223. The effective range of this weapon weapon is around 2000 meters. If you take the velocity of this chunk of metal and then add the fact that they make HE rounds for the Barrett... well you can use your imagination there. Chunks will definately fly.

And as far as the 25mm goes. It is not shoulder fired as far as I know. But don't discount it. I know someone out there has heard of the good 'ol Carl Gustav right? Rangers love the thing, even though it literally makes your heart skip a beat when you fire it. We call it the Goose. It is an 83mm ant-tank rifle. Yes 83mm. Thank god it is recoiless. Chunks? Chunky Salsa?

Ahhh yes. Here is a link.

I'm really getting the willies wondering *why* you want to know this?
