Before I ever saw a Dirty Harry movie I remember wathcing 'Alien Nation' with my Dad, he's a big closet Sci-fi guy. I remember the use of the .454 Casull and being in awe of its power and strength. I think I was about five or six(I'm only 25 now). I remember not being able to stop talking about it, it was favorite imaginary gun when I played 'War' with my friends. Making the loud booming sound in slow buildup. Then I later later saw the Dirty Harry movies, 'Deadpool' is my favorite for some reason when I know there is 'Sudden Impact' with its more memorable lines.

And then when I later saw Death Wish 3 (I think I saw it before any of the others) and the .475 Wieldey. Go figure that my dad was an anti, I finally converted him after my parents neighborhood started going down hill. And later when I saw my grandpa's(my mom's dad) Ruger Blackhawk .44 Magnum I think I was hooked. Yeah I like my snub nose .357s(don't own a .38 and probably never will unless i get one left or given to me), but I'll always love my Ruger Blackhawks(and Supers). I really need to get a camera to post them. I like my Ruger Redhawks in .44 Magnum, and I've been pondering a few .454 Casull projects(shortened 3.5" barrels, cut for moonclips to also be able to shoot .45 ACP) if I can find some used redhawks in rough shape.

I want to get a ATF legal short barreled double barrel shotgun with the stock removed, ten inches. A .69 caliber slug shot leaving around 1000fps would be as far as I'm willing to pus the hand cannon love, but I can't help but think it would be cool to just have one for the fun of just having one, a little useless over priced toy for grown men much corvettes or blonde girlfriends(when they become wives they are no longer toys) lol.

I'll probably never own a .500 magnum, just can't get into them, i've fondled them in the gunshops, and maybe if I fired one I'd fall for it but I think I'm too utilitarian because I like the .460 better. You can get the .460, .454, and .45LC, and after a visit to a gunsmith like pinnacle you can shoot .45 ACP.

I don't know what drives my love for hand cannons. I compare it to the other parts of my life. I don't care for sports cars, give me a four wheel drive truck with a V-8 any day of the week. I like the simplicity because most handcannons are revolvers, I don't consider 1911s hand cannons unless they have gotten the .460 Rowland conversion that allows them to perform in the .44 magnum range. The one shot, takes out anything standing performance, at least how many view it even if wrongly.

I hold an 1911 in my hands and I feel the simplicity and reliability of the model. I hold a Redhawk .44 Magnum and it's a thing to behold and be in awe of, you just have to unload it and pull the hammer back and decock it safely a few times before reloading it and putting it back.

Thoughts, opinions

Glad you found what makes you happy. I also like "recoil" and you would think that equated to revolvers but I just don't like them. I shoot em when I can for a shot or two but then I remember my dislike and go back to my semi-autos. Give me a 1911 or Glock any day over a revolver even if it means less power.

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man- Been a while, but this is close to exact wording-

"Harley, NOBODY learns on a converted 454 Casull!"

"I did."

And the comment about how much money he spent per trigger pull and didn't hit anything a little later in the movie was great.

I think a 10mm 1911 with DoubleTaps in it could be considered a Hand Cannon.
One day soon i do hope to add a .460 Rowland conversion to my current 1911 for HD.

10mm? BWAAAAAA, ha, ha, ha! Gimme a break, that pop gun? Hell, the .500 S&W ain't squat, either.......

Well, you got it right. Your post says "...CannonS". If it had said Cannon, you could only have one. Since you used the plural, you can have lots. I have a different hand cannon for each day of the week.

I owned a Ruger 454 for a long time. It was super accurate and incredible. I loved that gun. I shot a friends performance center 500 mag. Wow, thats a awesome handgun.

I've got a couple that I will break out on occasion. First is a Ruger Super Redhawk in 480 Ruger. Then a Tarus Raging Bull in 454 Casull. Finally a Desert Eagle in 50 AE. They are a lot of fun to take with me when I go to any group shoots. Everybody wants to try them out.

In addition to the option of a T-C or a Destructive Device, there are also black powder options.

Yeah, MCgunner, it gets crazy with the Encore. Sky's the limit.

Back when I was in the handcannon phase, I took several deer with a .35 Rem. Super 14 Contender. Had a handload that duplicated rifle ballistics with the 200 gr. RN in the 14" barrel. It was deadly on deer. Hard to realize its long range potential without a rest...or lots of practice.

Time for practice has become less and less, so the .35 Rem Contender has seen little use lately. That gun cured my thirst for anything bigger.

HAHAHAHAHA! I have great respect for the 10mm compared to other auto rounds. However, it does not come anywhere CLOSE to being a hand cannon. It's capable of less than half the muzzle energy of a .44 Magnum--which these days is on the lower end of the hand cannon spectrum.

My main hand cannon is a 5.5" Ruger Bisley in 45 colt. 335 grain bullets at 1200fps are almost comfortable to shoot :) I don't have any real reason for owning it, though I keep telling myself I might hunt with it one day. Mostly I just love the sturm und drang.

I've shot some of the big boys, .50AE, .454, 30-30 in Encore includeing the lowly .44mag Redhawk and so on and some hot .45 colts. like 'em. I have a 625 that handles the .45 Super easily and a .50 cap lock Hawken that do OK.

Well, if .45 Colt qualifies, I have a 4 5/8" Blackhawk and a 7" TC barrel in .45 Colt. My hot load pushes a 300 grain XTP to 1200 fps out of the TC, 1120 out of the Blackhawk. I've carried the Blackhawk on hog hunts in case I needed to blood trail in brush and when hunting 'em with dogs and a knife and also on hunts out west and a few hikes in bear country, mountains in New Mexico. It's a handy hogleg, a little heavier than a medium frame .357, but it's also more powerful than a medium frame .357.

My 460 eats 44 mags.

This are the bullets that it eats.

From left to right
45 acp/45LC/454 cassull/ .460

And this is the monster that eats them.

Smith & Wesson 460 XVR
And that's my arm and I am 5'10"

Totally Cool.

Congrats.
You have officially compiled the highest ratio of idiotic posts per thread.
Great job
Especially the pic of the 460 pointing at it's owner. We need more examples of responsible gun owners like that.

Not.

Oh noes, I should know that a bullet is going to automatically moon walk from my locked ammo box and into my 460 stealthly while I cleaned it. Then according to you the hammer is going to clock its self back and then then trigger is going to be pulled by the leprachaun that is hiding behing me .

Oh yeah I should know better. Silly me.
