The myth of the one-shot drop - FBI paper

I've got a former LEO buddy who had a BG take 6 .357 Mag rounds and 2 12 gauge slugs before he ever hit his knees.

What!!??:p That is one of the funniest things I have heard on this forum. I don't believe for a second that those were center of mass shots. You would be jelly if you got shot with that in the center of mass.

I fully agree. Even if the guy was on meth or some crap there is no way anybody could survive 6 .357 rounds and 2 12 ga slugs center mass.

Why is it whenever this subject comes up, there are those 2nd, 3rd and 4th hand stories about caliber type and number of hits it takes to bring somebody down. I don't think that I've read a credible 1st hand account yet.

I'll start the next "A guy I know" story:

This one time at band camp...

Reminds me of a guy who came into our gun store and looked at a cheap .380. He was loudly fantasizing and acting out "popping" someone just behind the ear, as in walk up behind them and doing them without warning. I suspect a lot of you wouldn't even think of something like that while considering stopping power, but this guy was half way to heaven with that .380 in his hand.

In case you're wondering, he proceeded to flub the "yes/no" questions on the Calif paperwork and walked out without a sale.

Personally, I always thought he was from the local TV station or some such thing.

I like to hope for the best and plan for the worst.

Being that my shot placement is pretty good (even while diving behind a dumpster) I still feel better with a .45 than a .22. As for the 9mm vs. .45acp debate, I think they are "close enough for government work" especially if the capacity is similar.

Sometimes I still carry a .22, like when I'm jogging past the neighborhood pit bulls and such but you never know what could happen or what could attack you. If I do carry a little .22 I usually carry an extra mag. A big dog or a big human might require a reload and a few kicks to the head or nuts to finish the job.

Best to always be armed with something.
