Used to carry just one, but now I keep two handguns locked in a small safe which is bolted to the floorboard of the pickup:

1. Taurus 85 5-shot .38 spl snubbie, stainless, bobbed hammer, in pocket holster (really it's a belt slide holster, but doubles really well as a pocket holster also). This is for just in case I'm out & about somewhere and don't have my usual CCW rig on me for whatever reason, and feel I might need something going into X, Y, or Z establishment. Will double as the "girlfriend gun", due to its simplicity, in the event I need to yell "here, take this and start shooting!". :p

2. Full-sized handgun in case of that very rare (probably never) situation where I'm in need of more serious firepower: Taurus 24/7 OSS-DS, 5.25" bbl, .45 acp, extra mag. NO holster.

Both are corrosion resistant, and fairly inexpensive to replace, both requirements of pickup truck guns. I've gone through a variety of iterations of vehicle carry handguns, but I like this one enough that I will probably stick with it for good. Both have been tested for reliability in functioning with the carry ammo.

Well that is indeed a great setup. I'd love to be able to dedicate those kind of guns to being truck guns. Clearly you think pretty highly of the Taurus 24/7 OSS .45. I assume you have the desert tan one? That seems to me like an extremely nice pistol. You say you've testing it thoroughly and found it reliable.

Tell us more about that pistol. Would you consider the Taurus 24/7 OSS 45 for an EDC or bedside gun (bigness notwithstanding)? I suspect a lot of people may be like me: little Taurus experience but who are very intrigued by that pistol.

Thanks.

Actually I wanted the tan one, and the website showed it as in theory available, but I could only find the .45 acp one in black. The 9mm and .40 were easy to find in tan, but not the .45 acp.

Now on the 24/7 OSS, I tested it, but didn't test it *thoroughly* yet. So I cannot give it a full and fair clean bill of health just yet - need to load up a bunch of rounds. But it was flawless with about 50 rounds so far.

My carry and home defense (and fun) pistols are all CZs (3), 1911s (2), and Kahr (1). But they're too near and dear to my heart to leave in the pickup, so I went with something a little cheaper, though trusted. I WAS keeping the snubbie revo in the console and the Taurus in the safe, but after a recent discussion, I decided I might be being negligent to keep the snubbie in the console so now they're both in the safe.

The features on the 24/7 OSS-DS are just second to none really. Steel magazines, metal guide rod, steel sights (night sights), loaded chamber indicator, cocked indicator, manual safety, XL bbl/sight radius, very interesting trigger (it's essentially a standard "half-SA" or "pre-sprung" trigger, except that in the event of a non-fire, it reverts to true double action and then works as a DA/half-SA, if that makes sense), great ergos, great looks, well made, seems to be reasonably accurate, low price. What more could you want in a self-defense pistol? Other than perhaps a better trigger such as a 1911.

Would you consider the Taurus 24/7 OSS 45 for an EDC or bedside gun (bigness notwithstanding)?
Yes, I would, most likely - if after further testing it cycles reliably for 250 plus rounds with HPs. Large doesn't matter for home defense handgun anyway. The larger the better in terms of sight radius and recoil control (at least up to Deagle-size I guess).
