Hey everyone!

This summer I'll probably have enough spare cash to buy a more expensive gun than my usual $250-ish price range. That is, I might be able to swing something around the $600 range. Anyhoo, if you were in my situation, which of the following would you buy?
1) Persian Mauser (Samco)
2)Swedish M41B (no scope) (Samco)
3) Nepal Snider-Enfield (cleaned and complete) (IMA USA)
or both of these:
4) Austrian Steyr m95 (J&G sales) and a Yugo SKS (Samco).

I know this is a bit of "apples to oranges," but what do you recomend?

Here's what I've already got: 94 Winchester, Mosin Nagant 91/30, K31, Schmidt-Rubin 96/11, M24/47 yugo Mauser, Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk. 1/2, Westernfield 20 gauge, 2 .22's, and a .58 caliber muzzleloader.

P.S. Is there a chaeper source for the Steyr M95? J&G seems a bit high.

Get a Garand. Get hooked up to buy through the CMP or start looking for a deal. It was gonna be said, I just got it in sooner rather than later.

Of what you listed, I'd prefer the Swede a little over the Persian, but having ammo commonality with another Mauser is a plus for the Persian that may even out.

A buddy (Army Reserve JAG Captain) today shot my Garand, probably his first time with an M-1. This rifle has only been used out to 200 yards by me, and just once. It is a Service Grade, and the aperture has always been adjusted for about 100 yards.

Today Bernie fired at a 14" or 15" metal gong from 300 yards, with the aperture still set for 100 yards. After about six shots his next not only hit it, but spun it around.
If you decide to consider a Garand, the CMP (as you probably know) is the most recommended source.

DANG.... i was gonna go off menu and suggest like 4 different rifles you weren't looking at... but you already own them

you obviously have fine taste in rifles; they're exactly what i'd buy :D

the only glaring hole in your collection is an SKS. You need one, and you know you want to....

I'd get all five of them eventually. Start with the Mausers, they'll be gone at semi-sane prices soonest. The Persians are pretty, but the Swedes are better shooters to me; I like the 6.5 round though so YMMV.

If you want an SKS, don't wait. As it is I can remember seeing Norinco's for $100 and that'll never be again. I'd suggest the plain 59 because it doesn't have the grenade cruft hanging off it.

The Steyr would have the lowest priority for me. Neat enough but not exactly easy to feed it.

Semi auto does seem to be your only hole, and the SKS will do a great job of filling that in. I'd skip the M95 though, and use those funds to save for the Swede or Persian.

Just post pictures when you decide. Pictures make everyone happy.

I would ask if you have a caliber preference? But I am partial to mauser's so I would say Persian or Swede. I reload and have 3-8mm's and 2-7mm's, the 6.5 swede is a good shooter and a great plinker with light loads(it's a handloaders dream)

I actually didn't think of the M1 as it is usualy out of my price range, I'll be sure to look into that.

Does anyone have any judgements on the Snider-Enfields? I was leaning towards one of them because of the history and the interesting action.

They're interesting but I'd rather find a shootable Martini-Henry since they were designed as breechloaders. The conversions always struck me as something better left in museums.

M95 & SKS, 2 for 1 sounds better than just 1. I'll buy cheap guns any time, i just like having a large variety. i do have a couple gems, but there's nothing wrong with shooting a cheap gun (as long as it doesn't blow up)

I am actually looking to buy a Steyr M95 Carbine this next week. I'm planning to scope it with an S&K Scout Mount (long ladder) , but I'm not sure which scope to go with. I'll do some hunting eventually but for now, it's for targets. what kind of scout scope would I need (under $300)for that kind of recoil?

P.s. I have a 1925 Mosin, so I'm not new to a little kick. :)

SKS is such a fun gun to shoot. Keep the firing pin clean though...you dont want it going brrrrp.

Speaking of CMP i forgot they have a headquaters in AL. need to check their prices again and go ahead rasie the funds for one

If not an M1 Garand, the M-1 Carbine is great fun to shoot as well. Plus bulk ammo is usually cheaper. I own both, and love them both for different reasons. The SKS is a good suggestion as well. And for under $600, you can pick up a nice Yugo M70 AK style rifle from AIM Surplus: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.a...M70AB2T+Underfolding+7.62x39+Rifle&groupid=11

For a little over $600, you can get an AR platform rifle or the aforementioned Garand or Carbine. Just a few ideas to consider.

OP's post was June. I wonder if he was able to buy anything to share since then?

Imperial Guardsman, what did you decide upon?

Sorry about how long ago this thread was started. I've been busy and had things come up. Saddly, that means I didn't get anything. Thanks for all the replies, advice, and interest.
