Laser etched machine engraving, not hand engraved, not exactly my cup of tea even if I had the money [$3500.00] to blow on the consecutive numbered pair. I would shoot the hell out of them if I was a philanthropist-collector. Plain old fine steel wool can remove and fade the'engraved'design easy. Nothing like fine deep hand cut chisel engraving. That is what REAL collectors look for and salivate for. They are nice to look at, with white cotton gloves! Now where did I put those lottery tickets? Maybe, just maybe,"TWO-GUN KID", in a Bentley convertible perhaps............

They still say Old Navy in the 'description' section below the ad. That still hasn't changed. 100 made is not exactly a nice collectible number. Some of our members here have some very rare one-off a kinds that were made during the Old Army's final days. Now that is 'Rare', really rare. Hang on to those pistols guys. One day, you will be surprised on what you got there.

I found another Stainless ROA with adjustable sights in a pawn shop today. If it has been fired it has not been fired much. Box, factory nipple wrench, instruction book...

Understanding wives......
Yes, J-bar, we are fortunate to have understanding wives. My wife for instance, is so understanding that when I come home from the range, I find a bottle of Hoppe's No:9 Plus and some Windex spray waiting at the kitchen sink along with her personal hair dryer and an old but clean towel and quickly reminds me to clean that or those pistols before rust sets in. I don't have a choice 'cause she won't make dinner 'till I clean up those filthy pistols. Now what more can a guy ask for. Makes for a good and fast clean-up when you are tired and hungry!

I guess I really didn't realize just how much I am into the Ruger Old Army's. Got woke up yesterday afternoon (from my requisite middle-aged fat man nap) by a call from a local dealer to ask ME what the value on an ROA would be that someone wanted to trade in. He asked if I would be interested and I explained I wasn't since I already have 3 just like the one being discussed. But I will stop by next week to check it out probably. Like a moth to the flame. Wow. I'm seeing stainless 7.5 inch adjustable sight specimens selling for over $600 lately. I have mine already and am tickled to have them of course. I guess the fever is spreading! Don

Oh yeah, like I mentioned before, hold on to those babies that you got, they will only increase in value, new, unfired, or otherwise. Once they are in GOOD hands like the members here, thats it, NO MOH! A good thing is a joy forever.

Open season all year long and as many as you can slaughter. It was some good eating. Took the backstraps and let them marinate in a wine/water/garlic powder/onion powder mixture for a few days and then threw it on the pit. Didn't last long at all. Tagged that one about 2am. At the time I had an LED flashlight that I was having to hold in my hand beside the stock as I shot. Since then I've gotten a green LED that mounts to the scope from Selph Arms LLC.

Thanks for the response,tdperry ,they do make good eating. Over here in my side of the country, up north from where I am at, between L.A. and San Francisco, It is open season too all year long. They are very destructive to crops and can wreck havoc on a field of veggies and fruits overnight. Farmers here are glad to get rid of them. We hunt in groups, never alone or even in pairs. They can and will come after you if cornered or provoked. Best to surprise and blind them with good strong flashlights and pull a good quick shot . My 45/70 with good Buffalo Bore ammo alwas puts them down no matter where I hit them. Never recovered a slug yet. Never run too. Just flat out down, right there. May roll over some, but still same spot. Carry my ROA with conversion .45 Colt as back-up just in case. Ive been reading this thread repeatedly for a while now,but I managed to pick this up last week so I thought Id post it up.
1974 model,Its been used hard in cowboy shooting but still working great.
Im mostly a patched ball/muzzel loading kind of guy so this thing is kinda like a machine gun for me.
What I found most amazing is I can actually hit things with it.Never been a very good shot with my 1911 (ok not a front stuffer but everybody should have one)
but with the old army ,first time out, I was getting a 5" swinger at 25yds 2or3 out of 6 shots.Grinning from ear to ear.
Using an almost full cylinder of 2f (happen to have lots but no 3f) then an oxyoke lubed wad and a 457 ball outa a Lee mold.Very plesant to shoot.
Ive got questions but Ill save them for now

Well, one way is to befriend the local undertaker and tell him you will include him in your will if he can sneak in a couple of nice ROA's inside your coffin, underneath you that is.And make sure your going away clothes don't carry any NRA or Ruger pins stuck to your lapels. That is a sure sign you are going away with some undeclared baggage. Don't want that. Upon arrival up "THERE", make sure you declare what you have with you, CAN'T LIE, that will only agravate the 'gate-keepers' and may require a detour to the fires of hell! Can't risk that when you got some holy black stashed in your holy backpack! Make sure your next of kin knows what's going on so they won't search for your missing ROA's to auction off!! You can use the Belt Mountain pin on the 5.5" but you will have to dispense with the loading ram catch at the underside end of the barrel.
I only eyed my parts, but I was convinced not to desecrate my 5.5"er by going any further.
I'd have to take a much closer look to see if modifying the pin will allow the removal of the cylinder with the pin trapped by the rammer's catch.
I opted to mate mine with my 7-1/2" fixed sight gun and leave my Stainless5.5"er as Ruger intended.
Call Belt Mountain, they have the base pin in stock, and it is no more (and probably a good deal less) expensive than any other supply. Got mine a week or so ago.
So far as the base pin retainer pin, I found them available in blued (I'll have to look up where at, though), but NO stainless available anywhere.

MrRogers Belt Mountain Base Pin for 5 1/2 ROA fixed sight stainless....
Try Brownells for your base pin,they seem to carry a lot more stock then other places. You will really have to remove the loading lever catch/latch to use that base pin or any other for that matter. Use a very good correct fitting flat blade screwdriver bit to remove the catch/latch screw. Press tight on your cupped palm and turn slow with pressure ccw. Keep that catch/latch and that precious little screw in a zip lock bag. If you loose them, Ruger has NO MORE! Your pistol will look much better with the conversion cylinder on it without that catch/latch sticking out like an ugly mole. Hope you find that stainless base pin. All the best....Joe
