The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

roa

To Sumikito...That Ruger then was made when I graduated high school!! I looked up the serial number at Ruger. If that gun is older than most of you guys, then I am a fossil! It is in fine shape....even with a white cleaning cloth...nothing, no dirt or grime inside or out! It has one very small ding on the bottom of the grip. To articap... It does have the look of someone using some chemical on the finish...it's smooth to the touch but you can see it's not right. I'm not complaining mind you. I think I got a good deal and a great Ruger! Can I be in the club now???

What I meant that your gun is older than most guys here,is we are all young at heart even if mostly older foghorns that like to play with our holy-black shootin' irons every once in a while.Keeps us all very much younger when we hear that booming report every now and then. Better than taking our usual medication. I for instance sometimes fill my empty pill bottles with .457 balls, keeps them nice and handy! Now does anybody know where ClemBert is so we can get this nice fellow into the club ASAP !! Now where on earth did I put my pill bottles.

I know what you mean about being older. I have my pill bottles lines up on my dresser so I don't forget them! I have tri foculs that are such a pain when I shoot. Sometimes it's easier just to not use glasses as I can focus better on the front sight. Here's a question: Does the ROA use any special kind of nipple wrench? I have one and don't remember where I got it from but it is a "tad" too big for the nipples. I took a nipple out but the wrench rounded the edge of the nipple. I tried again on another and stopped before it moved much. I thought all nipples were the same size. I see where Track of the Wolf is having a sale on wrenches...maybe I just need another that "may" be a tighter fit.

Pills:
I knew I was getting old when I started looking at my weekly pill caddy to see what day of the week it is, instead of looking at a calendar.

ROA nipple wrench:
The original factory hex wrench fits the original factory hex nipples very snuggly. Either your wrench or your nipple is buggered a bit to allow the slippage you describe. Others will have to advise you further. The Treso nipples I have on a couple of mine take a different wrench...I use the the Tedd Cash ratchet on those.

Be sure to use a quality socket and you might have to file a bit off the head of it to make it square as most have rounded heads that won't fit square to the base of the nipple.

Yes,get a quality 3/16 tipped socket wrench. Filing the rounded/contoured opening of the wrench perfectly flat really helps remove those stuck nipples, even rounded ones.Press hard flat against the nipple and give it a quick yanking twist. Bingo !!

Hello the Camp !

Mine have been shortened . The cut it about 2/3 of the front sight .
Date of fabrication :1976.

I am looking for a holster, lots of makers but not sure their holsters fit well the ROA.

Can somebody help me ?

Michel.

Regarding Larry Flet's (Michel) holster inquiry:

Michel, try to find a holster made to fit the Ruger Blackhawk model. You may need one that will fit a Blackhawk with at least a 7 inch barrel or more.Something in the order of the Blackhawk .30 carbine model would work well. However, stay away from those molded-to-fit leather holsters that have a bulge under the barrel for the ejector rod housing. They always seem a bit tight for the Old Army.Try to get a 'generic'that will fit most single action large caliber revolvers that are a bit not too tight and have some means to secure your pistol,be it a snap-on strap or a full flap. There are a lot out there, but dont look for one just made for the Ruger Old Army only, you will go nuts if you go that route.Bianchi, and Ruger themselves used to have Old Army only holsters, but I believe they are no longer made. They do come out once in a while on the web if you check often.Make sure it is for the Ruger Blackhawk with adjustable sights, not for the Vaquero or other fixed sight single action pistols, those are sure not to fit your gun,as your sights will catch and snag on the inside of the holster.Think outside of the box and you will be rewarded with a great looking holster for your very unique looking Old Army. All the best to you Michel, ....Joe

I can custom make a holster for you. It would be custom molded to my ROA
let me know if I can be of service.

Holsters for the Ruger Old Army

How about letting the good fella from France that needs a holster where exactly he can avail himself of those great looking holsters and how much he would be paying for them including shipping all the way to Europe.I do know for a fact that Triple K still makes a few for the Old Army, but will they ship out of the States is most likely what our new member would also like to know. Those are superb looking holsters I may say! Really nice! Any other members who can chime-in on other holsters for our new friend would be a nice welcome touch. P.S. I do know that the big outfits like Midway and Cabelas will ship anywhere in the world, but do they have them?....

I'm new to this forum site and would like to join the group. Got a pic of my Old Army's but Can't figure out how to upload it

SUMIKITO, I will ship anywhere, customer pays actual shipping costs. My prices are quite high. Slim Jim is $50.00 & Full Flap is $60.00. The California Profile Slim Jim is a proto-type and not for sale. The Texas Star rig was a special order for a customer in Tx. I don't much care for making belts, but in this case the customer talked me into it.

Re: Holsters for our good new member in France, (Michel) Larry Flett ROA club # 93

Well there you have it Michel, fantastic hand made holsters from rdstrain49! You can not go wrong with with those and his prices are unbelievable! And to top it all, made by a great crafstman/member of the ROA club. Look no further Michel, with those holsters by rdstrain49, you will be the envy of your shootin' friends in your part of the world! To rdstrain49,that kind of workmanship and pricing is unheard of in this day and age of mass-produced items.I must tip my hat off to you, twice.

Got lucky when I found these, Gunshop had both at the same time. The brown grip is a '74 and the red is a '79

Great looking pair there RugerShawn. At the rate we guys are hoarding those Old Armys, there might be no more pristine examples to be had in the future. It is very surprising how the prices for these great pistols have gone up lately. They will most certainly increase in value as the existing supply deminishes like a lot of other pistols before the Old Army. So lets keep on putting those peerless revolvers to good use either as shooters, safe-queens, or proud display pieces. Can't really imagine what it will be in a couple more years so lets get them while we can. I believe them to be solid investments today and in the future days ahead. The finest cap & ball black-powder revolver ever built, bar none.

To Sumikito

Hello,
Thanks for the information.
Triple K and Midway don't ship to France. Nothing available at Midway and Triple K have said me none of their model fit the ROA 7 1/2 adjustable sights.
Take care.
Michel.

To Rdstrain49

Hello,

Nice pics and of course nice works.

I could be interested because your holster are made for the Ruger ROA.
Mine is shortened as you can see on the pic, and have adjustable sights.

At this time all the makers or dealers I asked aren't sure their products fit PERFECTLY the ROA ...

I love my Ruger and I am happy to be a member of the THR ROA club.

A secret ==> I love too the smell of the Black Powder !!!

See you soon.

Michel.
