The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

New pic. Just picked up the polished stainless 7.5". Got it NIB; appears cylinder is unturned. But I have every intention of shooting it.

Added faux ivories and a Kirst Konverter to the blued 5.5". It's headed to the range tomorrow ...

Legionnaires pistols

How about a range report on your 5.5" with Kirst converter on what loads you tried at the range.Have the same exact pistol with same converter here. I guess your Kirst is a .45 Colt. Have both .45 Colt & .45 ACP in mine and it performs great with all sorts of factory ammo.Extremely accurate with both calibers and never an extraction or pressure problem ever as long as they are factory loads. Get those cloverleaves in the bullseye Legionnaire!! Nice pistols by the way.

Ruger Holsters

In reference to my last post, I've attached a couple photos.
Although I'm not really soliciting any work, I did ship a Rig to Germany last March. Shipping was a bit steep at around $40 to $45 priority mail.
Anyway, I love this ROA club.
I'm awaiting a Kirst cylinder for my ROA.
Regards.

NineMilePete's holsters

Beautiful holster there NineMilePete. I can see it is a very well made holster and that design is really nice. Also looks like it is a bit of a canted butt-forward design if worn on the right side, great for when you are on horseback I bet,and as a crossdraw too! Makes for a quick and fast instictive draw. Hard to believe there are a lot of members here who are in their own right great leather craftsmen, a vanishing breed nowadays. Wow, great work indeed, this club is very much blessed to have guys like you. Keep on stitchin' guys, oh, and don't forget to shoot too! Regards..

Very much deserved NineMilePete, very much so. I'll bet everyone here feels the same. Now if we can get them holsters out to France to our new found pardner' there, so we can show 'em that good ole' American craftsmanship is still alive and doin' well. To qoute our other fine maker rdstrain49 a few threads back, you just gotta know where to look!

A little more than just the pistol - but

This is what I use mine for. The rifle put it on the ground but the pistol finished him off.

Nice kill of a hog you got there tdperry. Looks like it's about 160lbs or so and a young one at that. Should make a lot of tender eating pork-chops! Good shooting! .... P.S. Is it open season all year long and sun-down too on hogs in your side of the country? Did you bag that grunter at sundown by the way while feeding? Again, best regards..

I have a ? were the ruger old army still being made in 2005 in SS 7 1/2 barrel
I wonder what is the Resale price would be on a mint condition one I have a older blue ROA early year production was thinking in buying the SS ,model

7 1/2 inch barrel stainless steel Old Armies were made up through 2008.

Minimum price for a NIB SS 7 1/2 adjustable sight ROA would be $500-$550; market price is closer to $600-$650. Add $100-$125 for matching boxes and papers.

lonewolf5347, I recently acquired a polished stainless 7-1/2 inch adjustable-sight ROA from a private seller, LNIB, unfired and cylinder unturned; included original box and shipper, all the paperwork, lock, and nipple wrench. $600 delivered, and I was pleased with the price. And I don't plan on keeping it unfired.

SUMIKITO, I'll definitely give you a range report on the 5-1/2 inch when I get it to the range. Had family in town for the Easter weekend, and what time I wasn't doing my taxes I spent with them ... never got to the range. Work schedule is pretty hectic at the moment (working the next couple of Saturdays), so not sure when the next range trip will be, but you will definitely get a report. I've loaded up some BP cartridges in advance and am ready to go!

My ROA Bicentennial

New member here and this is my first post. Here's a ROA that I purchased new in 1976. The barrel is marked " Made In The 200th Year Of American Liberty". I shot it a bit when I first got it but it has sat in my safe unused for over 30 years. I don't have the original grips anymore and I'm not real fond of the Pachmayr's but they do serve the purpose.
I have owned and sold several Colt 2nd. Generation revolvers over the years but I never really considered selling the ROA. After reading the posts in this thread, I am tempted to get back into shooting blackpowder. I also own a Thompson Center "Hawken" and a Parker Hale 1858 Enfield.

Rettech,
I'm not seeing a whole lot wrong with your Pachymar grips. You have a real nice looking gun. Wecome to the club.

Re: Welcome

Thanks for your replies. After seeing so many fancy ROA's the rubber grips seem a little plain, but they fit my hand better than the thin wooden grips did.
When I bought it, I was living in a state where it was virtually impossible to get a handgun license and I wanted to try shooting handguns. I later moved to a state that had saner laws and I got into rimfire and centerfire handguns.
I know the Ruger is not really a replica of any original blackpowder revolver but I think it is the best ever made, and more than a few others have come to that same conclusion.

TO LEGIONNAIRE: Take your time. Just wanted to know how it performs with cartridges. Nice too that you load your own and do it with black. Not a lot of folks do that with black nowadays anymore, well the cowboy shooters do but thats entirely another world all its own. Let us know when you do. TO RETTECH: Welcome to the club. Rubber grips, wooden grips, plastic grips, ivory, as long as it is THE Ruger Old Army, without question the worlds finest blackpowder C&B revolver ever made. We are all lucky to own this standard bearer of the word QUALITY. There will never ever be anythng like it.

You can get factory or after market grips for your Old Army if you don't like the Pachmyer. The grips from a New Model Blackhawk will fit. If you go that route, there are so many choices and designs you can pick from

Got tired of trying to clean the black oxidation off the hammer every time I shot it, so I blued it, I think it looks pretty good

Ain't no such thing as the Ruger Old Navy. And searching the RCA web site for OLD NAVY PISTOLS gives the Old Navy clothing site.

I found that listing on "GunsAmerica* over the weekend and contacted the widow that was looking to sell them. I let her know about the erzatz wording, and she was quite thankful for the information. She was unaware of how to change the title page so that it was accurate.
I then passed it onto the fellow that sold me my Kirst Konverters, maybe he bought them up.

I just looked up the *GunsAmerica* listing and it's still there.
The widow has it set up as a 60 day auction listing with a $3500.00 Buy-it-Now price and an as yet unknwn reserve.
They are probably too pretty and maybe historicly valuable to shoot.
Unfortunately, never-to-be-shot guns haven't ever been part of my wants&needs gun buying strategy.
