I went out early this morning after remounting my scope and decided to try something different. I went with a Caldwell Shooting bag instead of a bipod. My first time using a shooting bag. I have officially put 50 rounds of Ferderal 150 grain ammo through my rifle. 20 of those rounds were unfortunately spent on zeroing it in 2 days in a row.

So. New Rifle, New Caliber, New Trigger, New Shooting Method.

These pictures are from today. I'll spare you the zeroing in at 50 and 100 yards. This was 300 yards and I was hitting it relatively easy after I got a feel for the rifle. I'll go 400 and 500 yards next time I shoot.

Thank you to everyone on here for making this possible.

Good shooting! That group is why so many of us recommended against the wrong rifle and wrong ammo. It really isn’t just the Native, the bow and the arrow matter a lot.

To be honest, I’d bet swapping to a different target would likely cut 1/3 off of your group size. Keep banging.

I have to agree with changing the target. Aim small - miss small.

Definitely try some different ammo until you find what your rifle shoots the best. I know ammo isn't cheap but that is the best way to get the most accuracy out of the rifle. Unless you reload then you can tailor the ammo to the rifle.

Looks good! Hopefully my .308 will shoot at least that good!

Of course, I went the black rifle route

That is because as you put more and more bullet holes in the target you destroy your aiming point and it makes it harder to shoot small groups. Another method is to have the rifle zeroed so it is hitting 2-3" below your aiming point when shooting for best groups. This way you have a consistent aiming point. You can always adjust the sights later to hit where you want.

But good shooting with a nice looking rig.

Savage rifles may not appeal to the " upper crust " long range precision shooters......but they usually hit the target with the best of them.
PRS matches are very unforgiving of equipment, so yes, folks usually go with the best their budgets can manage.

That said, the OP chose wisely and has a fine rifle that will serve him very well for his intended purpose.

I have been very happy with all the Savage centerfire and rimfire rifles I have owned over the years. They have all shot well.
As am I. Just wish Savage would address their magazine issues. If we had a 300+ yard range in the Savannah area I`d be tempted.

I wasn’t just talking about mouseholing the aiming point, but rather acknowledging that this torso target doesn’t offer a small or symmetric aiming point, and minimal exterior reference points. At least it has vertical and horizontal trace lines, but overall it’s not offering much reference for precise reticle picture on target.

But THIS TARGET is why I have been so focused in his other threads. In his first foray with the new rifle (second I guess), he’s printing ~1moa with factory ammo. The same as the 500yrd targets he shared previously with his still-new 223. Ammo tuning or reloading, breaking in those bags or using a more stable rest, using a more friendly target, eventually swapping to a more forgiving cartridge, and a lot of dedicated purpose-driven practice will shrink those groups even more. But using a 16” tacticool rifle, using sub-cartridge chamber inserts and 32 ammo, or using rotgut ammo will open them up.

@MR WICK - you have a good pair of rifles on hand now, shoot them until the wheels come off - WITH quality ammo.

I wasn't at The Range long today. I was only went out to help my best friend site his new scope. But I decided to put a target out to 400 yards. I only had 9 rounds with me. After I shot the 6 in the middle I let my friend take the last 3 shots. His are blacked out.

400 yards. That`s a pretty good stroll to go see how you did! Glad it was a rewarding trek! Nice shooting!
