I got to pick up my Gem-Tech Outback II silencer today from Mike, my Class III dealer. After getting dinner, we both headed down to the local indoor range to have some fun with the silencer, his Ruger Mark II pistol (I have yet to get mine threaded, so we used his), and his full-auto Vector Uzi.

Since I got to pick up the silencer on Valentine's Day, it's now known as the "Silencer Of Love". I may need to get some sort of heart sticker for it, as long as the sticker is heat-resistant.

It's been a few years since I was in the army and got to play with a machinegun, so I was looking forward to tonight. After firing his Uzi, I've come to the conclusion that whenever I get enough money for one, I'm going to buy it. It has practically no recoil, minimal muzzle rise, is lefty-friendly, and a hoot to shoot.

Amusing incident: We had to show our paperwork for the silencer and Uzi when we signed into the range, and all was well. When we went out to shoot, there was a class on one side of the range, and they had an instructor there with a wireless headset hooked up to the amplified sound system. He was giving various instructions throughout the shooting session. After the first magazine through the Uzi, the instructor turned off the microphone, stomped over to our booth, and sternly asked to see our papers. Mike produced his binder, showed his FFL, Class III SOT, and his Form 4 for the Uzi. The instructor clearly had no idea what he was looking for, just that machineguns needed "papers". He flipped through a few of the pages, finally settling on one totally unrelated to what we were shooting, said "looks like everything's in order", and let us get back to shooting. We think he was a little grouchy for the full-auto fire distracting his students. Hey, at least they'll now be able to focus if they ever are in the vicinity of full-auto fire! :)

The silencer was extremely effective, as evidenced by the videos. According to the manual, the can knocks 39db off of the report when firing CCI Green Tag through a Walther PPK/s. The sound reduction is very noticeable, even in the videos. Still, we were shooting indoors, so the sound is likely louder than it would be outside...and due to others shooting, I wasn't able to see how loud the shots were without hearing protection.

All in all, it was a blast (or a "pfft", depending on which gun we used). Even with all the paperwork, NFA ownership is fun.

All the pictures and videos are in the below-linked album:

Cool beans. He must have a slow-fire or closed-bolt conversion on the Uzi... the RPM sounds slower than usual to me. Around 700 RPM?

Did you have to give the local LEO a reason you wanted the suppressor? I'm curious because I want one for my P22...
