I was teaching an EMT class as a substitute for another instructor, and somehow I got to talking to a student on the subject of guns during a break. I mentioned that I was waiting on my paperwork from the ATF for my suppressor. Another student overheard this, and said, "Silencers are illegal."

I explained the procedure and the law to him, and he just rolled his eyes and told me I was wrong. He then started telling me (and the rest of the class) about how he used to be "an operator" with the Leesburg SWAT team, and how he used to carry an MP-5 with a silencer. He then started telling us that machine guns and silencers could oly be owned by cops.

I told him to look at the Knob Creek videos on youtube, and explain that. He then said that 'civies' had no reason to own those items. I asked him if he was taking the course because of the police department. (We get a lot of cops through there, who are trying to get a TEMS certification) He said that he wasn't a cop any longer, that he was working as a meter reader.

Sounds like a mall ninja to me, but it was hard to tell.

No not a mall ninja, Just a Idiot!
a Mall ninja would Know that that stuff was all accessible and would have had them in the past!

Don't bother casting your pearls of wisdom to foolish swine. Fools hate wisdom, and they definitely can't recognize it as such.

Sounds like a reader I had a run in with a few months ago. Guy was walking through my back yard and I went out to great him and ask what pray tell he was doing in my fenced in back yard. He was apparently the meter reader and wasn't smart enough to see the meter sitting on the outer (unfenced) wall next to the garage door. He got real defensive with me saying he had the right to be back there because of his job and I had no right to confront him armed as I did. I never presented the firearm but it was visible in my hand. I escorted him through the gate on the other side of the back yard to show him the meter. I asked him why he didn't walk around the exterior of the house before he decided to jump my fence and he couldn't give me a logical answer. He was still too busy berating me for having a pistol when I came out to question him about why he was in my back yard. After he left, I called the County and reported the incident. The supervisor I spoke with said he had no right to go where he was going and thanked me. I left out the part about having a defensive tool with me during the encounter.

If some crazed idiot ever jumped my fence, there's a good chance he would be leaving my yard with some broken bones.

Honestly...do your own survey of family and friends. Particulary the ones who are not interested in firearms. Many people believe suppressors and full automatic firearms (machine guns) are illegal for civilians to possess. I'll even make an admission here...I've owned firearms all my life and it was not until I was in my mid 20's before I learned suppressors and full automatic firearms were legal to own. I did not subscribe to any firearm publications, there was no Internet then, and I was a country boy with a party line phone. Basically a social caveman. At 26 I moved to the city and started hanging out at the local gunshop where I was informed.

As far as the definition of a "Mall Ninja". Well, the left thinks many of us on this forum are mall ninjas. If you are not an active military or law enforcement individual then they think we have some wires twisted in our heads due to our interest in firearms and hunting. Webster's needs to legitimize the word with a proper definition and rise the term from street slang.

I threw the mall ninja flag because he claimed to be an "operator"

Seriously- I know many SWAT cops (did you see where the school that I work for as a part time gig teaches TEMS?)

Realted-- sort of--

I was approached by a fellow District employee friday about constructing a silencer..He also was pressing me hard to see if I had one or he could borrow one (which I do not have access to one BTW). I pointed him to the ATF site and told him to also contact the city Chief or the Sherriff about signing off on one... he just kept pressing me. He also was hitting me up hard about me knowing if anyone I know owns a fully auto gun...just wierd....

Wierd, and maybe innocuous, but I know he does some sort of work for our security director, and he (along with other duties) works for the constable serving papers, mainly to possible hostile types...

I did tell him that both silencers/supressors and full autos are legal in Texas, and that stamps are available through the BATF provided that the local chief leo signs off...he wasn't interested in that route...

I smelled a rat...

I think "Village Idiot" is a more appropriate title for that stoolie! Obviously he drinks some seriously tainted Kool-Aid!

my take.....just an idiot who will not admit it when he is wrong, and will continue to dig-in on his position, even when faced with facts. Usually people are to polite to call someone on thier BS.

Sounds like an idiot, you're much better off just to laugh at him as you won't be able to reason him out of a position he didn't reason himself into. It sounds as if he is living in his own little fantasy world.

Who 'reads' parking meters?

Well, somebody gives you a ticket if the meter expires. But he's less of a mall ninja if he's reading electric meters. That's not pseudo-LEO (like a mall cop). In fact, if the guy reads electric meters, the OP's title doesn't make sense. More like, "I met an uninformed person this week." Where's the mall ninja aspect of the encounter?
