Finally bought one, in order to protect my newly-acquired Garand.
The guide's opening is so small that only a tiny patch can fit in the hole.
Is the small opening designed to only permit a brass brush to squeeze through? If so, the idea is to let Hoppe's #9 in the bore to simply evaporate? Most seasoned gun owners seem to frown on this idea.
The adapter piece on my plastic cleaning rod is brass (connects to a Narrower plastic Tip), and though results in an exposed edge, does a tiny bit of cloth around the brass edge provide enough protection?
The generic cleaning rod etc came from Bass Pro over a year ago, and then I was not at all impressed with their replacement parts which are not as wide as adapters (proper term?).
