Heretic? You decide

Gentlemen,

I sold my Colts! I had an opportunity to purchase a firearm I have wanted for a very long time, so off went the Colts. I have one kid in college and another about to start, so in order to buy I sometimes have to sell. Family always comes first. I know, I suck. :neener:

Since I no longer have my Colts (although I will buy a few more when I can), perhaps someone else should keep a tally of Colt owners?

I'll keep it.

Well, I guess I should post a photo if I want to join.

Here's one,

"Full flutes again!! I wish I had "long flute " conversion cyls for the Dragoons!"

My buddy has a half fluted cylinder 1860 and after seeing a couple for sale on some auction sites I don't know if I like them as well as the roll engraved cylinder or the full fluted cylinder.

A few more '51's:

A couple of 1860's the top one is by an unknown maker from an unknown time???
The bottom one is an antique made in 1863 and likely a veteran of the Civil War.
The nipples on the antique are too big for #11 caps so I use the cylinder from the "unknown" gun in the antique and it fits perfectly.

I agree, I have several full fluted revolvers and many of the Pocket Police model. On a belt revolver, the full flutes are historically accurate and visually appealing. Of course, when they were introduced, it was as a weight saving device. Unfortunately, many of the first cylinders exploded and the full flutes were quickly replaced by the engraved cylinder. Even on the 1861s which had no problems.

The Pocket Police revolvers seem to look correct with the half flutes. Not sure why, perhaps because of the demure size.

I believe the Peacemaker used the half fluted cylinder to show they were newly made and not re-purposed cylinders from percussion revolvers.

Guess I qualify. Still have these posted this in the Walker club way back in '08.

I like my Colts, all my blackpowder revolvers are Colts except for two. A Euroarms 1860 that is not in this photo and a Patterson copy brought in by Marrietta Arms ages ago. I shoot the Euroarms, but not the others.

The photo below is my collection of Colt black powder revolvers, most are Second generation guns. The cased pair are a couple third generation signature series guns, 1860 army models, one is the fluted cylinder version. The only one in this group that is not a Colt is the Patterson copy I mentioned above. The musket is an original 1862 dated special contract Colt musket. In this mix you will find the Walker, two Third Model Dragoons, A pair of 1851 Colt Navy revolvers as well as a pair of 1861 Colt Navy revolvers. There is also a 1862 pocket navy and 1862 Sheriff's model.

Gopguy,
Those are some very nice looking revolvers! I am guessing you have been collecting those for a couple of years...

Another Pietta Navy a '61, 8", 36 cal. Couldn't resist the DGW pictures and description.

Haven't shot it yet, but I prepped it today, must have been from old stock as the nipples were starting to rust no pitting but gobs of iron oxide in the recesses, cleaned and anti-seized. It isn't slick as my '51, needs some shooting, hammer has a hitch in it, if it doesn't smooth out I'll open it back up.

But man she's a looker, and now I got a 2 gun rig ! Gonna blow lots of smoke !

I have matching revolvers and spare cylinders that are not in the photo. I am pretty new to this activity, shooting black powder only for the last 3 years:

And these are a little digression from the thread and they are originals - 1816/1822 converted French Calvary pistols:

I think Willie should be granted CONDITIONAL membership on the condition that he agree to post pictures as soon as he gets home at which time he shall have FULL membership with all the rights and privileges entailed retroactive to the time of his post! By the way, Choctaw, what are our rights and privileges?

These were not conveyed to me by Choctaw prior to taking over management of the club. However, as soon as these rights and privileges are known they will be posted here forthwith and fifthwith. :neener:

Here are a couple of 1851's issued to the Militia of Upper and Lower Canada in 1855, the case is a modern reproduction:

What's up with the grips/trigger guard strap on the bottom (upside-down) pistol?

That is a very nice and historic acquisition you have!

BTW, I have a new Pietta 1851 Navy that I am working on, so no pics yet. I'll be sure to post when I'm done with the first couple stages.

And, yes, I am a noob!
