Need loading lever latch

Does anyone here have, or know of a source for the little spring latch for the loading lever on a Walker? I've tried Numrich, coltparts.com and dixie they don't have them. Cimarron lists them but they are 18.00 which ends up being over $25.00 shipped. Seems a little ridiculous for that tiny piece of steel. I don't know why on earth the shipping cost is $7.50.
Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

OK I'm Late, Can I Still Join ?

Here's the walker that had to be fixed with your help. I'll have to post targets later. The first pik is the spring. The other three are the Walker.

I don't know how those big pics showed up like that. I my learn how to do it right one of these days. The smaller ones showed up better. Oh well stuff happens.

twaits,

I just went and looked for my spring since I am not using it. Unfortunately, it has walked off to points unknown. If it ever returns, I will let you know. In the mean time, just remove the lever. Return it when you need to reload. One screw, no big deal.

Strawhat,

Thanks for looking. I might just bite the bullet and order one from Cimarron. I know I can use it without the lever but asthetically I think it looks better with it on there. I'm going to wait a few more days to see if anyone else here has one kicking around that they would sell me cheaper than $25.00 :)

twaits,

I think the going price is $18 plus shipping and handling. I guess we should have warned you that BP shooting isn't a cheap hobby. The key when ordering parts is to order other things you think you may need in the future so you don't get hit everytime with shipping and handling costs. For that Walker consider getting a spare hand spring and a spare main spring.

p.s. As I've learned from others here that a Delta faucet washer slipped over the barrel and the loading lever is the solution for a dropping lever.

The Texas rangers used to just tie them up with a piece of leather or rawhide.

Okay, my Walker arrived today (happy dance!); I'll get a picture posted in a day or two. When my gun arrived, the cylinder was locked up tight, I guess because the wedge was in too far. Working fine now.

I'd like to do a complete disassembly. Any tricks for removing the mainspring? Just brute force to hold it in and slide it down?

I just put the frame in a padded vise then squeeze the mainspring and slide it down.

Thanks, arcticap. Very helpful! Looks like it would be easy to make one's own tool along the lines of the Possible Shop's ... and I know I have some zip ties around here somewhere.

And here is my Official Application for Membership! Uberti Walker, with companion 2nd Model Dragoon. The Walker is unfired as yet, but not for long!

Walker loading lever drop

Another way to stop loading lever drop is to modify the loading lever spring. I filed the "knob" on my spring flat where it meets the lever so that the top edge would slip under the lever. This locks the lever in place and you can use the nipple wrench to push on the spring to unlock the lever. Check the attached pictures to see where I filed the spring and were I use the wrench to unlock the lever.

Hey scrat! I paid my dues ... when do I get my membership card? :D

And here's a new pic after removing the bluing from the cylinder. Looks much better, IMHO.

So what's up with the Walker Club? Seems mighty quiet around here of late. If no new members, how about a range report from someone?

Here's a question: I got a replacement loading lever latch from VTI ... and it's loose in the dovetail. I wedged it in with some shim material and it works, but have others experienced the same problem? I'm inclined to pull it and reset it in some JB Weld but am afraid that would make it impossible to remove if (or I should say "when") it breaks again. Thoughts?

Your best bet is to peen the base of the latch dovetail (not the notch in the gun barrel) with a hammer and punch. Peening will raise bumps on the base making the dovetail fit tighter.

This one. In this pic you can see the shim material I used. Functions, but inelegant.

Okay, now I understand. Use a hammer and a punch to peen the metal around the dovetail, clamping the spring in place.
