Stopped by the store to pick up some oil and such to change the oil in my car and i wandered over by the sporting goods desk. Apparently the ammo faerie had just stopped by and the shelves were overflowing with every type of ammo that store carries. They had boxes and boxes of .22 LR. Like everyone else I have been buying as Ive seen it available over the last few years but today I looked at what they had and I thought about what I had at home and I thought to myself " Ive got enough". Oh, I'm sure that the shelves will be empty by this evening but Ive got like 5000 rounds of .22 ( and 15K of real ammo ) which I would have never built up before the panic and I'm sure some of you are thinking that "That guy's an idiot. I'd have bought all they have" but if people like me are starting to leave .22LR on the shelves the tide might be starting to turn...Until Hillary Clinton gets elected then its more of the same.

Every gun owner should vote for whomever her opponent is to make sure she does not get elected. Period.

To stay on topic I have not seen .22LR on the shelf at my local Wal-Mart in about 3 years.

Just my .02,

Geesh, I wish I could have texted you to pick up a few boxes of .22 LR for me. :D

This is a big difference in just a month since I left Oregon. Cabella's shelves were still empty then (except match grade), and even the gun stores had little.

And that right there is why a.) I don't vote anymore and b.) I'm no longer a member of the NRA. NRA and 2A activist encourage me to vote for incompetent candidates, or worse competent candidates who oppose what I know to be to right, just to keep someone like Hillary out of office. I'm tired of voting against what I fear, rather than for what I believe. Don't get me wrong, I will cut off my hand before I vote for Hillary, but if her opponent is not worthy of the White House, I won't vote for him/her either. If I have to, I'll stay home and my vote will be to not vote for a bad candidate. The lesser of the evil though he may be, he is still evil.

Agreed. I haven't seen rimfire for sale in a retail environment in years.

I hope this trend hits my neighborhood.

It has been so long to see 22LR on the shelves here. It seems like I have a better chance seeing a pink unicorn from my deer stand.

Funny you post this because I recently did the same thing.

Was at Bass Pro the other day and saw plenty of .22 lr on the shelf. At first, I considered buying the 5 box limit but shrugged and said, "Oh well, I've got more than I'll shoot in 3 years now" and walked on. It's still not as common as before, but I'm seeing it at Academy and Bass Pro fairly regularly these days. Still not at Wally World strangely enough.

Affordable .22lr is still pretty scarce around these parts. Every once in a while I'll luck into a box or two, but it's rare.

Nope

Never see it in the stores - can't even recall when I last saw some .22. I have probably 7K now, and focus on ordering online deals to replace what I shoot. I'll slowly grow this still until I see it become more available.

I see 22 LR ammo in Gander and Academy in Auburn every single week and it has been available like that for a couple of months.
Is using Auburn in a thread about "the tide has turned" just an hour after the Iron Bowl a faux pas?

Stopped at Bi-Mart yesterday and they had a shelf full of Mini Mags and 5 boxes of 325 rounds for $17.98.
Works out to 5.5 cents a round.
Limit 1 box.
I bought 1.
Walked by about 5 minutes later and they had over 20 boxes of 325 packs on the shelf.
Seems like they always have .22 now.

On Wednesday morning, the new Gander Mt. store in O'Fallon, IL, had eight 1400-rd. buckets of Remington Golden 36 gr. HP in .22LR for $79.99 (5.7 per rd). (Last summer, a LGS had those same buckets for $65 but THIS year they were charging $95.oo!) :what:

By Friday morning, Gander's shelves were empty.
:(

I saw a decent selection of bulk .22 at an LGS in SE PA. It was between $0.07 and $0.10/ round. I have enough that I didn't get too excited or buy any, but I was definitely pleased to see any in stock.

i saw this explanation in an email from Brownells this week:

"The .22 Ammo Situation - We've received questions lately on something we've all been wondering about: Why is .22 rimfire ammo still "scarcer'n hen's teeth"? The shortage of centerfire stuff ended a while ago, so what's up?

Here's the scoop from some of our industry friends who are really plugged into the ammunition business. It's not as bad as it was. Rimfire ammo IS making its way onto store shelves, but demand is still sky high, so it zooms off those shelves almost instantly, usually with a limit on the number of boxes you can have.

Premium brands of .22 LR are sticking around longer in stores because customers who were willing to pay high prices just to get any .22 ammo have slowed down their buying. But the less-expensive ammo - the "buy a brick and plink all Saturday afternoon" stuff - still gets gobbled up as soon as it hits a shelf.

The biggest issue is, unlike centerfire ammo, rimfire is produced on dedicated machinery that can only load rimfire. Centerfire machines can load many different cartridges, so if there's a big shortage of .308 Winchester, the ammo factory can switch a bunch of machines over to it and ramp up supply much faster. That's why calibers that were in short supply in 2013 and 2014, like 9mm or .223 or .45 ACP, came back a lot faster.

Rimfire is a whole other ball of wax because of the way the cases are primed. It's really, really expensive and takes a long time to set up new rimfire production machinery - so costly that manufacturers can't spend the time and money to do it unless they're absolutely sure higher demand is here to stay, so the .22 LR production capacity in the U.S. isn't going to expand much any time soon. As long as demand for less-expensive rimfire ammo remains so strong, it will continue to be hard to get. Our guys tell me supply will probably stay very tight right through 2016. Wish I had better news - as soon as I do, you'll be the first to know!"

And that ^^^^ right there is why our rights get eroded over and over again.

Agreed.

But hey, when I see a candidate for whom I can vote with a clear conscience, when this country abolishes the two-party system, I'll vote for a guy who will protect our rights, but I'm not voting for the guy who will protect our rights, but who wrecks our economy or leads our country astray...the 2nd amendment is important, but it's not the whole ball of wax. (no single issue is) I won't vote for a bad candidate, just because he supports the 2nd Amendment.

Good luck getting Jesus to run, is all I can say; he's obviously not into it. If the candidates aren't to your liking, then run yourself. As a citizen, you have a duty to give your input to the process, it's the wage you pay along with your taxes.

I know it is easier to complain.

I got 12 boxes of American Eagle in Academy , they have plenty of them since yesterday's Black Friday.

When all else stinks I will never turn my back on the second amendment. We all have our priorities, but without the second amendment all others are worthless.

Thanksgiving Weekend must have altered the normal human traffic. Can you us know how (new) normal it is the next time they receive a similar ammo shipment?

If only my CZ-82, Polish P-83s and Makarovs could shoot commercial ammo much less than .25/rd.
