The wife went shooting with me again..

After a promise to take her to lunch afterwords, My wife went shooting with me again today.

I am getting a bit worried though....She's turning out to be a better shot then I am with some of my guns. At first she was quite timid and willing to only shoot "Her" little Ruger 22/45, but now I don't dare leave her unattended with any of my other guns while at the range.

Today she managed to shoot Her 22/45, My XD 9mm, S&W 38,S&W 357, and wait for it....My 29-2 ,44 Mag. (Note to self, change all references to "My" Guns to read "Our" guns in future posts.)

I'm not too sure that I want this trend to continue as she is now claiming to ba a "Magnum Momma" around the house.

Just curious, when you get home from the range, does she help you clean them?

I read an interesting article once about women shooting. It made comparisons that women have good concentration and lower blood pressure than men on average and usually score well shooting right from the start.

Not only that, us men are tinkerers, we think about the gun, the mechanical action and can get distracted that way. Not to mention the built in competitive spirit we have (testosterone).

The article noted that women tend to focus more on the task at hand and shoot quite well out of the box.

From a pure sporting perspective, there really are no needs for a womens league or mens. Everyone can compete equally.

Gents, take your ladies shooting!

Having fenced and played soccer in both men's and in women's leauges, let me be the first to tell you that estrogen is the far more dangerous hormone in competitive sports.

Men will do all kinds of nasty things during the game to win, but as soon as it's over, they are the first ones to invite you over for pop/beer and all is forgiven.

Women on the other hand, hold grudges. They will remember every little push and shove from matches played over five years ago and wait for the oppurtune time to exact revenge.

It's been 15 years and she may be 2000 miles away, but if I ever see that girl who kicked me in the back of the head while I was down...

As far as shooting goes - women have better fine motor control, too.

I wish I could post the article, I was going by memory it may have been in G/A a few years back.

The competitive spirit thing was about how guns are percieved as a guy thing and guys together in a casual setting will try to out do each other lending to a lack of concentration and poorer shooting.

I can personally attest after 14 years of marriage there are certain past events and subjects I avoid like the plague with my lady. Hell hath no fury indeed!

Here's the real positive spin.

Now that you have to call them "OUR" guns, it is much more likely that "WE" will want to buy more guns to add to "OUR" collection.

Instead of having to justify new purchases to the spouse, or hide new purchases from the spouse, you will now be more likely to make more new purchases with the spouse.

Can you imagine the following situation? Rummaging through a stack of receipts and having to ask, "Honey, what's this receipt for a Smith 625 from John's Guns??? And why haven't you let me shoot it yet????????"

to keep it short, this is my well considered opinion on the subject.

take an inexperienced man and woman to the range. tell the woman what to do. she does it. tell the man what to do and in just a few minutes he will be telling you how to do it and this is with him not being able to hit the ground. the male student may even get angry and leave because the woman is merrily poking holes in the target. work with this woman some about the finer points of marksmanship and she may very well outshoot you. marvelous students and i love working with them. their ego is not in direct competition with mine.

we males have that know all/do all attitude and will never ask for directions, on shooting or getting lost. having admitted that, the ladies may stop clapping and hooting now.

What happy old sailor says. Women listen & learn. Men learned it already from TV or movies and already know it all. It shows at the range.

Come to think about it, I have never really instructed her on the finer points of markmanship. All I have done is drilled her on safety and showed her the basics of how to line up the sites. The rest she has done all on her own.

Several times yesterday, I overheard her exclaim with glee "I hit the X again!" while shooting. This is coming from a person who several months ago wouldn't even touch a gun, let alone shoot a 44 mag.

Clean them? Hell no, that's mans work in her opinion. She does the wash, I do the guns

I have lately noticed that A LOT more women are frequenting the indoor range that I shoot at. This could be the start of a Great new trend here in California?.--Oneshot

Given the same amount of experience and training a woman will invariably outshoot a man.

Ego is the main issue, IMO. The guy figures he already knows it all. The woman readily admits she doesn't.
