While out shooting photos last night of what is considered a rare occurence here in Southern California I realized that I left the house unarmed. No gun, no knife, no nuthin. So when approached by four young toughs with shaven heads up on the hill at 2 am I had only my wits, (some would say I was at a distinct disadvantage) They wanted to know what I was doing,(taking pictures) is that an expensive camera (yes it is), it that your truck (yup). I got them involved in the photo process and we all got along quite well. :D

In the first picture on the left hand side that dark column... is that a tornado?? :eek:

No it's not a tornado, just a fluke of light. That picture is overlooking the north end of Camp Pendleton. The other picture looks WNW from a place where we fly RC gliders.

Boofus;

Geeeez! Don't you know that Boxer & Feinstein outlawed tornados in SoCal?

The weather here in San Diego last night was spectacular. I sat out in the bed of my truck watching the lightning for an hour or so. (Don't worry, it was miles away, out over the hills)

Canon digital rebel on a tripod, 10 to 30 second exposures, ISO 100, lens wide open. No I'm not fast on the shutter I just kept hitting the button over and over and over and over so I was bound to catch something on 10-30 sec exposures. Bogie out here this was a true rarity. Once in a while we get a bit of lightning but this one lasted for hours and just rocked!
