I have been looking at 9mms for awhile now and I seem to really like the new new VP9. I would be using it for the nightstand and CCW. Right now my only handgun for carry is a 5 inch 1911. Anybody have any experience with these guns or reasons I should not get one?
Thanks.

I handled one, and liked it very much. I plan to buy one also in the future. I've heard excellent reports from the owners on THR.

The trigger is nice.

I also plan to buy one. I shot one that a friend brought over to my farm range and it just made my Glock look like a piece of junk both in workmanship and performance. The trigger is the best of any stiker fired pistol.

I have one. It's the easiest shooting gun I have ever fired. It returns to target naturally for me. It is totally reliable so far. The trigger is really the reason this gun is so easy, accurate, and fun to shoot. The interchangeable side panels and back straps make the gun fit my hand naturally. The controls are very logically placed and sized. I really love this gun.

I like mine, but it's not small. I think it would be easier to conceal a 1911 than a VP9.

I've got one and it is extremely accurate, very nice trigger, recoil etc.....no glitches of any kind thru 300 rnds. It is tied with my Walther PPQ in all aspects except it is a little more customizable with multiple grip panels but the PPQ trigger is a little nicer. They are so close....they are both equally accurate, and enjoyable to shoot. PPQ is $75-$100 cheaper. If you go with the HK, get the LE version with night sights and extra mag, well worth the money.

I really hope they come out with a VP9 compact at some point. Love my VP but would love a smaller one even more.

I love mine and would highly recommend it. Its taken over as my primary carry gun. I have a number of 9x19 guns and if I was only going to keep one it would probably be the VP9. The main draw back is that mags are expensive. It is not quite as ubiquitous as saw a glock and there is not as big an after market. That said, good holsters are available and the only thing I have any desire to change on mine is the sights though. I didn't get the NS model because I knew I would want to change the sights either way.

Its a gun that is just easy to shoot well. I had recently taken two classes with my G17 when I got my VP. First time I shot it I expected it to be a good gun but nothing that much better than a number of other guns I owned. I really questioned having bought it. I took it out and shot it side by side with my G17. I left very happy with my purchase. The VP is a gun that's easy to shoot well. I don't have as many rounds as I'd like through it but in several hundred rounds its been reliable and accurate.

I would buy a compact version if it came out. I also wouldn't mind seeing HK make something PPS/shield sized. A modern P7 of sorts. I also really wish there was a factory threaded barrel available for the VP9.

I feel grit in the trigger of every PPQ I've looked at that's not there on the VP9.

In my experience, new PPQ and P99 triggers are almost always a little gritty. They break in to buttery smooth in about 200 rounds.

The VP9 is a superb sidearm! It's as good a shooter as any auto I've ever had. My very first shot with the gun OOTB landed dead smack on the X of the X-ring. Everyone that has taken it for a spin has shot it very well, including some real handgun nOObs. It's hard to over stress just how easy it is to shoot well; all of my HKs are accurate but none of them are this easy to shoot. For example my USPc took a few range trips for me to get to where I was shooting it at a satisfactory level. The VP9 just requires some ammo.

Part of this is ergonomic and part is the excellent trigger. I suppose that HK and Walther guys can squabble over whether the PPQ or VP9 trigger is better but both are fantastic.

The gun is full sized but not all that difficult to CCW. I do sometimes carry it but right now I carry my P30S a bit more just due to having more rounds through it. But I think after one more range trip the VP9 might become my primary winter CCW.

Just buy it! You won't be disappointed.:D

I don't really need another full size 9mm. but would definitely be interested in a compact version.

I too would like a compact in the VP9. In fact I called H&K and they are receptive to the idea. So call them and let them know what you want, hopefully it will be done. H&K 706-568-1906 Snoop

Shoot one before buying if you can. IME, on the ones I shot back to back, the PPQ trigger is nicer. Shorter reset, cleaner break, less travel. But the VP9's is very good.

I don't like the groove in the trigger guard. It rubs/abrades my finger. Apparently you can sand/mill/smooth it out if necessary.

Put another 300rds through mine this weekend. Had 1 failure, seems the flower got stuck in one of my new mags. In addition, slide failed to lock back twice when empty. I don't recall if it was the same mag or not.. Even though I numbered em.:banghead:

Superb gun. I've owned one for just over a month now, with about a thousand rounds through it. (It was my first pistol. I got excited.) Not a single malfunction. I do meticulously clean it though.

After trying all sorts of things, even asking some questions around here, I thought it was just right in every way. It's super comfortable, just the right size to fit my big hands but not be too big to carry, and shoots like a champ. Trigger is great (I've personally never noticed the groove) and the recoil is quite light. Bulls-eye's right out of the box. All I did was put the big set of grip panels on it.

Here in gun-unfriendly Mass, it was practically unobtainium, so I ended up paying absolutely top-dollar for it, but you know, I still think it was totally worth it. In that vein, yeah, mags are also super pricey. I only have three, and they all have silver lines running up them now since I can't cycle them out more often.

But yeah, totally epic.

The best thing about the VP9 trigger is that it's attached to an amazing gun.;) The trigger is just the icing on an already amazing slab of cake.
