I love my carry gun (Kahr CW40) but with winter here, and heavier clothes coming out, I am thinking about carrying a larger gun. What has stopped me before is the comfort factor. I have a ruger p95 that I just can't carry (combination of thickness, and large decocker). I'm giving serious consideration to two guns right now. The CZ p-01 and the CZ 75 compact (which I think is one of the sexiest guns ever made). Which gun is better for carrying in your opinion? Also, taking comfort into consideration, what method of carry should I use, and what holster? (I currently use IWB)

Yeah, but there isn't anywhere around here that I can check out good holsters.

The space for your location is blank, so how will anyone know where here is?

1. For a gun that I carry, I base my decision SOLELY on which one feels best in MY hand, shootability, etc. and not so much on other criteria (read "sexiness"). For a carry piece I concentrate on utility.

2. After deciding on the pistol, invest the money in a quality holster and gun belt. The belt is just as important as the holster. I don't know what your budget is, but $150-$200 should get it done. You get what you pay for. Generally, it's going to be hard to beat a Milt Sparks Versa Max II. It's my favorite, most comfortable rig. It took 4 1/2 months to arrive and was $100 and worth every bit of it. I have a 1 1/2 inch gun belt that mates perfectly to the holster loops. Not sure if you'll like it--order and try it (6 months later). If you don't like it, sell it. I sold a Milt Sparks holster (on ebay) for a glock and got as much for it used as I paid for it initially. Hard to lose there.

To reiterate, a quality holster and belt make light work of concealing IWB. You get what you pay for.

Take a look at the CZ2075 RAMI as well, I picked up one of these a while back in .40 and it has become one of my favorite carry weapons.

+1 to 45-Nut.

Comfort lies in the holster (and belt). Personally, I like IWB and love my new MTAC. IWB probably offers the most concealment with the least comfort. If you wear long shirts/jackets, you can probably get away with OWB or shoulder rig.

I would think that either gun would be "carryable" with the right set up.

good luck!

45-nut is right. Buy a quality belt and go from there. Mine is from Rafter S Gun Leather and I am pleased. For comfort, I'd go with OWB and have been happy with my DeSantis Mini-Slide for my G26.

Hold some guns and see what fits you. CZ makes fine weapons, but I'd look at Glock, S&W M&P, Springfield XD, Sig P239, HK P2000, and maybe even consider a reliable 1911. Are you sticking with .40? Do you want polymer or metal? How big do you want to go? Glock 19 big, Glock 17 big, or Glock 21 big? (I'm just using Glock as an example.) Maybe a 4" K-Frame is what you want?

That CW40 should be plenty for a CCW - summer or winter. Seems to me you're just looking for an excuse to buy a new gun ;)

UBG holsters and HBE leatherworks make great holsters. I have an OWB for my Witness 10mm. Which is basically the CZ75.

However, having worked with HBE and having been provided customer service that makes a body cavity search seem enjoyable, I now recommend UBG instead.

Since you aren't changing caliber why do you think you must use a bigger platform? You may gain a little bullet velocity but not enough to make any real difference. Adding a heavy coat and possibly a sweater to the target isn't going to make much difference to a quality .40 caliber bullet traveling at a decent speed. Unless you go up in power or caliber why change guns? If your carry method bothers you then just use a different holster configuration.

I'm wanting a bigger carry gun mainly for capacity. Had a run in earlier in the week with 4 big Samoan thugs, and I wasn't too comfortable with just 6 shots.

so

You live in Samao... or Hawaii... or Kalfornia...

If you're talking on-line, then go to the usual places - midway, etc.

Have you tried a Springfield XD45? 13+1 rounds.

A little thinner, go for a Sig P220 - 8+1 rounds.

Both have something in common... (45 ACP).

I live in Utah. A lot of people are surprised, but there are lots of islanders in different parts of the state.

Actually Eric (the E in HBE) is going through some serious hard times right now and HBE Leatherworks has closed its doors :(

Too bad because he made darn fine leather, and is generally an all around good guy (I carry my Kahr MK9 in an HBE DC Special).

I too have heard lots of good things about Ugly Bald Guy though ... next time I need a holster I'll be calling him up probably (plus his prices are real good).

With a quality made, molded leather IWB holster (especially a dual clip/loop type) you can carry a pretty large gun comfortably. I modified a regular old pancake holster to a dual clip IWB holster for my Steyr S40 and carry it daily with ease, and I know plenty of guys that pack full size 1911s with no problem.

The P-01 is superb for cww IF you need the light rail for some attachment.
A 75D Compact aka PCR is said to be favored for the CCW role if you don't want the tactical light or laser.

Both will perform equally. I currently conceal a RAMI in the summer and a full [sized CZ75B stainless in the colder months. However, I'm looking hard at the
PCR. Much lighter than the heavy 75B.

Then there are the steel framed Compacts that some people adore and
carry every day.

Alot of choices for a carry CZ, few of them are bad.

Well, I say get another, matching Kahr, and carry them both. Perhaps this second Kahr could be one of the larger-framed versions. If a larger Kahr does not have enough capacity, I would look at the SIGs with DAK triggers. I am a MAJOR believer in keeping to similar weapon systems. I carried a K9 for a while, and my wife still has one. My duty pistol is a P229 DAK.

IWB carry is very comfy with a Milt Sparks W6, stuffed with a G23, and a good belt. 14rds of .40 in the G23 is a good balance of weight and capacity:)
