IMO, the only reason to go to a larger CCW is to upgrade chambering. I carry a Kel-Tec P3AT or PF-9 in the summer, an EAA Witness Compact 10mm in the Winter. I would not switch from the PF-9 to another 9mm; No point.
I have never been anywhere where I've felt undergunned with 8 rounds of .380 or 9mm. Definitely not with 12 rounds of 10mm.
If 6 rounds of .40 isn't enough for you, get another mag. That said, in exactly what kind of confrontation are you expecting to need more? Really good odds that if you had needed to even drawn your Kahr, all 4 thugs would have gone away. Really, REALLY good chance that the other 3 would have fled if you'd been forced to shoot one.
If they decided as a group that they absolutely wanted you beaten or dead, facing four to one in close proximity, you probably wouldn't stand a chance with any gun.
I'm wanting a bigger carry gun mainly for capacity. Had a run in earlier in the week with 4 big Samoan thugs, and I wasn't too comfortable with just 6 shots.
