This is what makes me so crazy. This is an article about the Philly cop who was shot by a muslim because "police bend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the Quran".

http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2016/01/08/police-officer-shot-multiple-times-in-west-philly/

First there is this info from the commissioner...

"During a press conference, Commissioner Ross said the gun used in the attack was a stolen police firearm. “It was stolen back in October of 2013. It was reported, and that is one of the things you regret the most when an officer’s gun is stolen, when it is used against one of your own.”

Next you have this idiot of a DA saying
"I’m very thankful the officer is alive. This shows us the need for smarter laws when it relates to guns on the street....."

What exactly "smarter laws" does this waste of sperm and egg think would have prevented this? Making it illegal to steal police weapons? Making it illegal to shoot cops? What ? Does he mean it should be illegal for cops to have guns? This is the mindset that we are up against.....

He could only be referring to smarter laws of physics. If we had better laws of physics (velocity, momentum, etc.), nobody would die when a gun was fired in their direction. That can be the only answer.

ETA: But, um, yep. There is no reasoning coming from the other side most times.

If these low IQ politicians wanted to make laws that would really change the thug culture they would enact a law that demands a death sentance within 60 days for persons using a gun or facsimiles while commiting a felony. No plea barging allowed. Use a gun to rob, deal drugs, drive by's, shoot cops, shoot up any place with death to innocent persons, then in 60 days your worm food. No exceptions.

I see a flaw in your suggestion. There have been several instances whereby prosecution hid evidence that would exonerate someone. Cops have done this too (including lying).

Even DNA evidence has been suppressed and in cases, witness backgrounds were prohibited from being even mentioned in the courtroom!

I agree where there is a very clear episode of gun misuse (like mass shootings for example, armed robberies, similar) immediate PUBLIC execution is warranted.

It used to be with horse thieving, cattle rustling, gun misuse, you got one local quick trial, then off to the hanging tree for public witnessing.

IMHO horse thieving is the same as car theft in my book. But the powers that be cannot equate the level of crime to the punishment needed.

Regarding police bending laws - although I hate when they do that, they must in many circumstances do so to establish justice (like a cop speeding to catch a bank robber for example).

The Quran says a good Muslim (Islamist) has to do things to promote conversion to their religion. Unfortunately, that complies with the 1st amendment but violates common law against murder.

Perhaps we should adopt a policy that says either blend in peaceably with our society or get the h3LL out!

Of course letting everyone who is not locked up in jail or mental hospital freely get (without checks of any kind or the barring of anyone wanting one), concealed carry, transport, and USE guns for protection of themselves, property, and others could go a long way to alleviating much of the crime committed in this country.

Wasn't Jefferson the one that said I would rather live in dangerous freedom than live in peaceful slavery?

The Islamists (and even many of our own people/government) seem to want us all to be slaves to something or another.

Too bad the government won't adhere to the 2nd amendment as intended and start a program where the people can get regular (and CHEAP) training.

Wasn't Jefferson the one that said I would rather live in dangerous freedom than live in peaceful slavery?

It's a translation of a Latin phrase that Jefferson used.

"Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem."

The unfortunate thing is that it's a quote used by people who seem to favor the same type of authoritarianism that the "opposing" side does, just under different circumstances. Those who say that it's "unfortunate" that Muslims are allowed to spread their faith and those who say it's "unfortunate" that gun owners are allowed to voice opinions on gun control are both birds of a feather.

We should be outraged at the blantant disrespect for human and civil rights that people seem have for one another in all cases, not just the ones where the perpetrator of such violation fits into a category that one considers scarrier than others.

I apologize if I'm being presumptuous of your opinions, but said opinions would be par for the course when it comes to discussions about faith here. I am in social circles that allow me to see the near-intentional blind spots when it comes to something not fitting one's narrative on most sides of most national and international issues. I see a lot of wide brush strokes being made here when it comes to certain demographic groups, such as Muslims, and I see the wide brush strokes being made elsewhere when it comes to other groups.

None of it helps improve the civility of the society in question, it just breaks groups of people who would otherwise peaceably interact into factions that mistrust each other based on the actions of the extreme minority.

Upon further review I am going to reopen this with the following warning:
No more talk about religion. That will not fly and is sure to get this locked permanently. Stick to gun rights and laws as they are now, not how they MIGHT be.

Folks, I couldn't agree with this more. I only referenced the shooters religion as it was central to the news story.

Use this as an opportunity to point out to others just how unreasonable and narrow sighted the anti crowd is. Proof that they will use any soapbox, regardless of how little relationship to reality that it might have, to push their agenda.

This guy tried to ambush a cop, and claimed to be an ISIS supporter

I don't care about ANYTHING he has to say.

We should send him to meet his god, the sooner the better.

I am so sick of hearing about some individual (or some group) going after or bad mouthing cops. The cops are the guys putting themselves in harms way on a daily basis.

U.S. LEOs are heroes in my opinion, the .001 percent that are not will be found out and dealt with eventually.

If you see a cop today, you should thank him/her for all they do for you and let them know that they are appreciated,

Disclaimer:
I am not an LEO and I don't play one on TV, I just think cops have been getting a bad rap lately.

OK, off my soap box.

Have a great day

d

I heard they came out with 'pork bullets'.

I wonder what THOSE could be used for?

Many cops are hard working honest people but a few bad apples give the rest a bad name.

If we did what George Washington suggested we would never need cops/LEO's at all.

But alas, it won't happen.

If we distill the job of cops down to two things maybe people can understand a little better?

1) Catch and stop violent people
2) Catch and stop thieves.

Anything else really isn't necessary. Nor wanted.

Saving this one for future snark-use :D

That's an undocumented and undocumentable figure. I don't believe it.

But that's neither here nor there in the context of the attack.
  1. Such things are intolerable on general principles, whether you like cops or not.
  2. The attack wasn't on cops as such, but on Western civilization in general. The cop was just a visible symbol of that civilization.
  3. The only way to deal with such rabid animals is to put them down like rabid animals.

Bring back public hangings.

If these thugs, gangstas, and "terrorists", envision themselves hangin' with a broken neck and pissin' down their legs, things may not seem so heroic.

And as the days go by we as a country are letting in more potential problems due to the inability to do thorough background checks for various reasons. If we temporarily closed our borders until we had a viable vetting process in place to weed out the bad apples this would go a long way to future harmony within this country. The thought that if you want live in the US or become a citizen then adopt our customs and beliefs is the answer IMHO. The LEO is indeed a symbol of Western civilization and was the lightning rod for that particular attack. Prayers for his complete and speedy recovery.

A lot of those extremist countries are all for cutting off fingers/arms/feet etc. or public executions. Are we all that much better here after some of the posts above? Just sayin.

Won't happen. Even often in murder cases.

The Philly politicians are gun grabbers and to them more restrictive laws make sense because it makes them feel good. No law would have changed anything including confiscation because these are bad guys who do not respect the law regardless.

A "viable vetting process" isn't even POSSIBLE for the ones coming from Syria, in most cases.

What's the FBI doing to do, call the Damascus PD and ask for a background check?

Hell, ISIS has the ability to make physically LEGIT Syrian documents now... and that's not counting LEGIT documents obtained through bribery.

Of course this administration simply doesn't CARE. This is a PURELY ideological (and ego) driven "policy". The physical safety of the general public isn't even a consideration, much less a priority.

"Future harmony"? That has to be destroyed in the name of "fundamentally TRANSFORMING" this country... into a third world cesspool.

The policy is, "We don't have to protect you, and we won't LET you protect yourself."

This started off as an example of the flawed logic some of our opponents use, where someone killing a cop with a stolen police firearm is claimed to be an example of why tougher gun laws should be written.

As though stealing isn't illegal.
As though stealing a firearm isn't completely illegal.
As though stealing a firearm FROM THE POLICE isn't pretty darned super-duper illegal.
And, oh yeah, shooting someone with your stolen gun is also still illegal last I checked.

There was a point in all that.

Since then this has devolved into a group rant about religion, foreign policy, torture-as-criminal-justice, immigration, the death penalty, the statistical rates of cops breaking the law, and all sorts of other things which don't have anything to do with our own RKBA.

Robert tried, but this just won't fly here.
