Fishers - Police are trying to find out who owns a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol found near the Windermere subdivision Tuesday.

A man found the gun in the street at a four-way stop on the way to work this morning.

The gun is commonly used by police and is popular among gun owners. Police do not believe it is evidence in a string of recent robberies in Fishers.

"We're still in the process of trying to find an owner and that will probably include the ATF and trying to track the serial number for sale," said Sgt. Gerry Hepp, Fishers Police Department.

Police say they have no reports of a stolen gun. They think the gun's owner may have accidentally left it on top of a car while driving and it fell into the street.

But you know, the anti's have been warning that with the AWB subset, more guns would be turning up on the streets. Maybe that prediction is FINALLY coming true. I know I for one am going to start keeping a better eye on the street when I'm out and about.

I've found all kinds of things along the road- nice claw hammer, very nice Snap-On rachet and socket, a box of CDs, and... about 100+ nude pictures of a young lady that her ex- scattered over about 1.5 mi of roadway (but that's a different story ).

I have never found any guns or gun-related items. Drats!

It took three officers the better part of an hour to collect all of the evidence. Trust me, we were totally professional throughout the collection process. We made no inappropriate comments upon discovering each new photo. All photos in this case were shredded per court order. We had four officers look at each one and then watch them go though the shredder. Compliance with court orders can be such a PITA sometimes.

I think the outcome was that that the guy got charged with 132 counts of Disorderly Conduct. I think the court also hit him with a like amount of Littering charges. At $151 each count, he had a hell of a bill.

Had a friend who worked on the highway crew mowing the center median on I65 from Indy to Chicago. He was always finding 'something' thrown out of a car window the owner didn't want to get caught with.
