I am a Plankowner of THR.

THR Misson Statement clearly states Responsible Firearm Ownership, IMHO we have failed terribly at maintaining our own Mission Statement.

A LOT of folks read THR, many are not members, still information is gained from this site.

I arrive at this conclusion after returning from the Tulsa Gun Show.

Larry, Chris, and other members were in attendance. We all agree.

In addition, standing next to me up here, are Old Fuff, Jim Kennan, Markos, Tamara, Preacherman, Standing Wolf, Lee Lapin, Dave McC, Brian Williams, 4V50Gary, kudu, TrapperReady, Johnny Guest, LawDog, ...well it is kinda crowded up here, so I will continue.

Take Heed!!

Older Smith & Wessons, and Colt wheelguns are total pcs of junk. Avoid these.

Also avoid Gov't Model of 1911, Colt Mustangs, BHPs, High Standard .22 semis, Colt Woodsmans.

One is to also avoid any wood and blue shotguns, especially older ones, in particular 870s, SX1s, Beretta 303, Citoris, Red Labels, 1897s, Model 12s, Model 42s... you get the idea - and whoever the idiot was that said a 28 ga in any platform, was worth anything - ought t to be taken out back, shot, hung and shot again. Wait a sec, maybe not...just avoid 28 ga shotguns okay...

Lever actions in Winchesters, oh and speaking of Winchester, them model 70's , are not worth crap!

Time does not allow me state what all to avoid, I'll cut to the chase.

ONLY BUY :

New guns, of new manufacture. One gets a warranty, some even for life.

One gets a box for sure, lock for your bicycle, a neat key to fit the gun on some, some logo gear like hats and vehicle stickers...all sorts of perks with new ones one does not get with all that old crap at gun shows.

Pla...err...Polymer and synthetic is THE way to go. Kumquat-Guava fru fru coffee cleans up off these best anyway...

I am ashamed of THR and of myself being a plankowner of having misguided the viewing public and members.

I sincerely apologize for my behavior, for others standing alongside me and for THR in general.

Respectfully,

Steve

Well Steve, even though you *claimed* to have given up drinkin' back in '85 (?), could be ya backslid?:neener:
Biker

I know when I cook a good meal I tell my wife it is horrible and I'll have to eat it all.

So by my logic you are trying to cause a drop in the price of most older guns, liekly many collectables...

:what:

oh my, I'll shut up now and wait for the market fluctuation...:D

I think I too will sell my 1911's. I don't want to be outside of what the gunshow crowd is recommending

By the way, did you get any beef jerkey?

...don't forget that SIGs rust, 1911's jam, USP's break firing pins, Delta Elites crack their frames, and Berettas break their locking blocks right before putting the back half of the slide through your bridgework.

The faster most folks realize that all guns suck, the happier they'll be.

I mean if'n you gonna buy a gun, might as well buy a new one, even tho all guns suck and all...why I happen to know someone in Knoxville that will be more than happy to take a older gun in on trade for a BRAND spanking new gun...

NO the show was fine, besides the lack of no A/C..., my roving landmark in tight jeans, IWB zip tied 1911, cowgirl hat, caused me to have a table or three to just run up and bump into me...nope...even some other landmarks moving and getting columns and such to get in my way...nope all was fine...

....just noticing , observing, and my personal responsibility to inform readers to leave the aforementioned guns alone and support their local Gun Store with new gun purchases ...

:)

Ill be sure to tell everyone I see owning one of the above mentioned firearms that sm (steve) of thehighroad.org says that they are foolish for owning them and that the firearms are of no value. Spread the good word friends!

I will attest...

...that everything sm says is true.

I have seen the Light!

And no, I was there, Steve was stone-cold sober (and has been for many years) when he revealed this revelation to us (P95Carry and I). We totally agree. Chris will post on this thread if he ever sees PA again (separate thread).

Chris and I took this to heart and he liberated a dreaded S&W 29-3, never to be seen again. I chose to remove from the market a Stevens Favorite in .22lr, an old one with some case color and decent blue left. I'll probably throw that piece of junk in the river in the morning.

Plenty of black and camo pla..err polymer guns left. That's where the deals are. Ignore those old grimy POS blued and wood-stocked guns and especially stay away from 28 ga shotguns. The little things are worthless.

Thanks for stepping up folks and getting the word out!

I have a favor to ask Ayoob, Givens, Awerbuck, Cain...any other trainers and writers...

Sirs, I mean can you assist me here?

Please!

I mean a old Police Trade in 870 for a shotgun class?? Good grief a OLDer 3" Kframe and Heavens to Betsy , a Detective Special for a Snubby Class...

Would it not be better for the economy and proliferation of Mom and Pop Gun stores to sell new guns to folks attending class?

Thanks to all the instructors, writers and trainers, I really appreciate this.

Regards,

Steve

I'm going back to Virginia at the end of the month. Any member there who wants me to haul away their trash so they can refill their safe with shiny new guns, please drop a line. Oh, the suffering I submit myself to on behalf of humanity. I may even be sainted one day. :p

See?

We all knew Gary was a stand up guy, one of the reason he moderates.

So you folks near Gary, shoot him a PM. Besides, with new guns and pretty boxes, you will not have "all that clutter" instead the wife will remark...

"Oh baby I like having all this room in the gun safe - shut up and kiss me..."

I hearby volunteer to serve as the official "old gun recycling guy" to help rid the world of all that old junk floating around out there.

I'll pay, oh, say .50 cents a pound, seeing as that's around what a local recycling place is doing for cans these days.

It's the least I can do.

Well, darn!!

Gary, looks like you can come by and haul away about half of my 'collection'. I sure as he!! don't want to be caught out in public with it after reading all this.

Guys (Steve, Larry, Chris) - maybe you need to start wearing ear plugs when you go to the Tulsa show. Just pretend to be listening, nod your head, and keep on walking (or bumping into tables in Steve's case; he might need ear plugs and blinders.)

:D

I designate myself as the Mid-Tennessee disposal specialist.
Also, Steve omitted to mention that popular wisdom now dictates that ammo has a shelf-life of just 3 months, so I will be available to dispose of all your bad ammo too.

Ditto, sm, and more...

I advise all responsible gun owners on THR to please avoid buying all those wood-&-blue-steel-claptraps-of-certain-death mislabled as "mil-surp battle rifles"--- esp. ones manufactured in anti-gun, Socialist nations filled with women who don't shave such as England, Australia, Finland, Switzerland, and Springfield, MA.

They are dirty, awkward to use (having to cycle a bolt manually?. How absurd... ), and fire obsolete cartridges that can break your shoulder, cause deafness, and can't hit the broadside of a barn at 2000 yards....

Just leave them to gather dust at the gun stores and gun shows until I (as a public service) can come by and make sure that the dealers dispose of these dangers in a politically correct manner.....

...for the children, of course.

;)

well thanks for telling me all this great info. Out with the old and in with the new. Thanks so much !!!! :banghead:

...sniff...sniff...I am touched by the outpouring and unselfish nature of folks stepping up to the plate here on THR...

Cable Gun Locks are great for protecting steel plates from falling down and getting hurt.
Instead when a steel disc is suspended from cabled gun locks, they get to swing... in response to being hit by bullets. Steel plates really like to swing...
Steel plates really hate it when they drop and hit the ground...

Just being 'sponsible is all....

I think sm had already put the word out prior to Sat. as a few of us spent the day trying in vain to rescue 1 last 28ga.SxS,but alas to no avail. Guess I'll have to go to Sportsmans Warehouse and see if they have a box with 1 in it. Think I'll go in the safe tomorrow with a can of black Poly-paint and update all my old stuff.

Mr. Rizen,
we worked very hard on that rescue mission, I am so sad to admit failure.

Beef Jerky: No I did not see any.

A great thread topic would be How many thousandths of an inch is a stick of beef jerky thick?

Needs to be stickied and put where that crappy sticky on checking out revolvers Jim March did currently resides.

See these new guns have tolerances that allow dirt, grime, Made in China Shrade knives to pass through. Speeds up weekly inspection, maintaining and cleaning. Whatever the thickness of jerky is, about right...

Oh...another reason I did not really look for Jerky? The best food to be had in Tulsa was in our Rooms, homemade , and totally out of this world...such as fresh caught smoked salmon for instance...and...and...ah, you don't want to know...

Now it is true one , no matter what one shoots , one will shoot better with a stick of jerky in back pocket, the new guns really really...just get the jerky and new guns- okay?

That old .22 bolt action (the one made way back in '69) just followed the 1911 into the fireplace. I had to bend it in the middle to get it to fit.

Well......I guess I can volunteer for the central Mary-land disposal center!

Hillbilly, I'll raise yer offer .10 cents 'n make it .60 cents a pound! Do I hear .70? Afterall, ya know them 1911's don't bring much! lol

I was present when and may have asssited on...

-When the Nickel Colt DS was taken in trade for a NEW tricked out PGO shotgun. When asked if 3" buckshot "would do the trick" , I replied " yep".

-It is called ____ (can't tell you because he was a member of Team Walrus and some stuff dont' get told) ...- just being 'sponsible, I mean if the guy is going to own one instead of a Ithaca 37 taken in trade for - terminology is important .

** Upset **

Some darn fool took his hard earned money, traded in the Syn stocked shotgun an ex-girlfriend gave him, and - get this - bought a LNIB, Trap grade SX1 ...and...a 26" factory skeet bbl. Yes you can rest assured I had a talk with this fellow, had to take the gun away from him a few times to point out the errors of his ways too...you betcha I did...
