January 2005 Match - Tiger Hunt
For those who may not be familiar with the general rules of the matches please see the rules FAQ .
You are on safari with your favorite firearm when suddenly, in the distance you see a pair of Tigers. Since you have paid good money, and are on a special hunting preserve, you can shoot tigers but your permit only allows for ONE. That is OK since after your first shot the other tiger will run off.
You sight-in and take your best shot at one of the tigers. One-shot=one-kill is your goal. But this does not always happen. You may be able to move closer to get a more certain kill with your first shot but you get more “macho†points if you can down the animal from a longer distance. Tough choice. Also, these are wild tigers; if you wound them they will likely attack you!
Scoring:
Scoring will be based on the number of shots for a ‘kill’ and distance. The number of shots to down the animal is described below. The ‘range’ (target distance) is YOUR CHOICE. However, I will use the range of all entries to normalize the scores. The longest successful ranges will get higher final placement in the rankings.
You shall continue to shoot at the tiger until:
1) Your shot hits the red ‘kill zone’ circle on the tiger target.
2) OR, you hit the target in ‘non-kill’ zone (i.e. you hit the tiger but not in the circle) 3 times. Three hits in a non-kill zone will down the animal.[Note: The ground under the tiger on the target does NOT count as a hit on the tiger.]
3) OR, you fire 6 times and do not kill the tiger. If you need this many shots the now pissed-off tiger would have attacked you ! This score should be reported as “I’m dead meat†.
The final score you report must include :
THR NAME
CLASS
# of shots to a “killâ€
Target Distance (yards)
PISTOL STOCK CLASS - Standard pistols with barrels 6" or less
PISTOL IMPROVED - Pistols with significant improvements from out-of-the-box or pistols with barrels more than 6".
PISTOL SCOPED - Any scoped pistol
RIFLE STOCK CLASS - Standard rifles with iron sights
RIFLE SCOPED - Any scoped rifle
AIRGUN PISTOL- unscoped airgun
AIRGUN RIFLE - unscoped air rifle
3 entries per shooter in up to 3 classes allowed this month. (i.e. you can shoot up to 9 targets, three in each class; Hint:you may wish to try the target at three different distances, perhaps.)
