THR Virtual Match - January 2005

Yea for me!

I have participated in my first virtual match! I thought I participated in THR's last month, but I found the targets (w/addressed envelope paper clipped to them), in my in box on my desk yesterday. :banghead: Anyway I'm Craig H. from Lexington Park here: http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting/postal/5results.asp

I have printed out my tigers for this month!

Finally made it out to the range to shoot one of these things!! The outdoor place I go is unkempt during the winter - 5 feet of snow of the ground there. Since I didn't feel like trudging too far, my distances for both categories was a measly 15 yards.

STOCK PISTOL CLASS:
HK USPf 9mm
15 yards
Shot #1 Through the eye of the tiger. According to the kill zone on the target he didn't die from this one, thereby rising up to the challenge of his rival.
Shot #2 Kill.

STOCK RIFLE CLASS:
Colt M-4, 6920
15 yards
Shot #1 Rolled him, clean kill.

RANGE: 12 yards
SHOT#1 = Hit on Tiger
SHOT#2 = Hit on Tiger
SHOT#3 = Hit on Tiger
SCORE = 3 shots @ 12 yards

winter sucks range is frozen so i had to shot in the garage with the air rifle.

I had to trudge through the deep snow in bitter cold to shoot this one! (Ok, ok, it was 1" of melting sludge and 46 degrees. )

I wanted to try out my relatively new Marlin .17 HMR (917 VS) on this. I wasn't feeling especially brave so I first tried 25 yards. First shot was a little low and right. Next one was a kill.

CLASS: Scoped Rifle
RANGE: 25 yards
SHOT#1 = Hit on Tiger
SHOT#2 = Kill
SCORE = 2 shots @ 25 yards

Then I backed up to 50 yards. Well, the cross hair was moving around all over the paper like a paramecium under a microscope. I tried 4 shots, 3 missed and the 4th hit the tiger in the belly. I figured discretion was the better part of valor and ran like hell with the tiger hot on my heels! IOW, no entry.

Well,
I got to playing with my scanner and I now have a pic of the muzzleloader target I shot.

Thr Match Scores - January

Here are the scores for the January match. It was good to see some new shooters have discovered the match and gave it a try. Mark Whiz and Robert J McElwain cleaned up in most of the classes - nice shooting guys. There were a few fatalities. There were probably a few that people didn't fess-up to - but it's all for fun.

NOTE: The scoring was by ranking relative to number of shots to a kill weighted by distance. All disctances were converted to yards. The score factor = yards / shots. This places a premium on performance at longer distances.

Nice shooting by the way. A one shot kill at 20 yrds with a pistol is not easy.

Pure luck. It was the only shot I took. I noticed the Feb. match target on the other thread, man that looks tough. Doubt if I'll be shooting a long distance on that target.
