No death penalty in Wisconsin

"My guess is the guy "has issues". Not that I think it is a defense. If the state has lethal injection I hope DA seeks the needle."

Sorry Happiness Is A Warm Gun but executing these kinds of people wouldn't deter the next one. Last execution was August 21, 1851 and its highly unlikely there will ever be another execution in the state of Wisconsin. Even if they had the death penalty this guy probably would slip out from under it because he is a couple of bricks shy of a full load.

One source says that the weapon was a .30 caliber semi auto.

"Police radio scanner reported the suspect had a .30 caliber semi automatic rifle."
News media reportings of gun details are almost always deficient. OK, they can spin it if they want to, but why can't they specify the make/model/caliber of any gun they report on? Certainly they should do so in a case like this. Give the readers the information they need to classify the gun in any category they like.

... Law enforcement personnel went door to door and evacuated residences within at least one square mile of the Kingsford train bridge following the shooting.
This kind of interests me. Exactly how was this done? Voluntary or mandatory? If an armed (or unarmed) law abiding citizen wanted to stay in his home, did he or she have that option? Did LE search homes to make sure everyone left? Under what authority?

I'm sure it was a logistical nightmare. I certainly wouldn't want to be evicted from my home for such a situation. There was only one shooter, they knew where (approximately) he was and I can protect myself.

Bad for the gun owning community, no matter how you cut it. All that trouble caused by some loon with a .30 cal rifle of some sort....

I think the whole lockdown/evacuation thing may be getting out of hand, though there are obviously times where it is quite appropriate.

This happened just 60 miles south of me. Murders are EXTREMELY rare up here so it's all over the news.
Yup, I hear ya. I'm up in the Keweenaw, in Laurium. Lots of people were concerned about this.

once I was shooting with my friend and my dad and my friend shot my mosin nagant and then when he went to pull the trigger for a second time (without working the bolt) nothing happened and he was like I thought this was automatic! then i told him he was an idiot and that it was a bolt action rifle and he said well don;t get all techinical with me:barf:.
