Hi, I recently sold my WASR10/63 leaving me owning no firearms at all and with about $463 dollars of loose cash to buy something. I've been looking at Hi-Point Carbines, they seem to be inexpensive and well reviewed and I know Hi-Point has a very good warranty. The thing that turned me off to them is that there are no real high capacity mags for them, though today I found out there are after-market 15 round magazines, I was looking at Kel-Tec 2000s as well because I know they can take regular pistol mags and therefore I could at least get a 33 round Glock mag or something but for some reason I'm sort of pushed more towards a Hi-Point than the Keltec, also I've found a great deal on a Kimel AP-9 that's been barely used, but before that I was considering getting a Masterpiece Arms MAC-copy, so honestly I'm tied between a bunch of things, what do you guys suggest I get? What's your opinions on all these? Oh a question I have about the Kimel AP-9, someone told me if you hold the magazine to a Kimel AP-9 when shooting it, the bolt (and or magazine) will be both permanently damaged, are they really that delicate feed and function wise?

My Hi-Point 995 with the ATI stock and a cheapo 4x32 scope will put 5 shots in 1 cloverleaf hole at 25 yards on demand with WWB. I've been tempted to toss one of my nicer scopes on it, but it is just so dialed in, why bother. I think I have about $250 into it total?

My vote would be the Hi-Point unless you really need hi-cap magazines. With the price as it is, you can buy more mags. Reloading shouldn't be an issue.

All I do is plink, but I don't really like .22 and I'd like a pistol but I don't want to blow all my money, but then again I don't want something that's inaccurate or has a short range, so the Hi Point seems like a good compromise but then again this AP9 is a really good deal and would be a neat little gun to have.

I'd still probably go with the Hi-Point. Great for plinking, and you can do just about anything you want with it, including turning it a Beretta Storm clone.

Well ive never seen a used AP9 for anything under 350 and i found one new in box with all original stuff for 275 I've also been looking at Masterpiece Arms MAC-copies but i dont feel like paying $360 after the local place orders one, seems like too much for a MAC10 even if other copies sell for more
I recently bought a new Hi-Point .40 carbine, and that ugly pig will eat anything I feed it, and chews the centers out of my targets all day long. The only problem I have with it is I don't get to shoot it often enough. I can't speak about their pistols, but this carbine is one FUN little gun! I put a 50mm BSA red-dot scope on it, and it will hit where the dot is everytime.
If you want the ATI stock though, you'll have to go with the 9mm carbine, they don't make one for the .40.

the hi point looked like a great choice till i found out disassembly is super complex and tedious; and i read a bunch of stuff today about how AP9s are prone to breaking / going off on full auto. i also read some stuff that reinforced buying a mac10 or an m11 but i dont know they still seem too expensive
Yes, Hi-Points are a pain in the ass to disassemble.
Of course, perhaps once every hundred years you might need to break it down completely, but you really don't need to take it a part for every few hundred trips to the range. A bit of oil, run a boresnake, and you're good as new.

+1 on what COMPNOR said. The Hi-Point is a down right work horse, it will run all day with just a basic cleaning.
I would recommend getting a recoil pad for it though for two reasons... extends the buttstock and makes putting several hundred rounds down the pipe easier. Little guy has a kick to it.

I have an AP-9 in the safe. I haven't fired it in years. Same with the semi Macs.
They're fun to play with, I'm glad I still have them, but is it something you're going to shoot a lot? They're heavy, bulky, non-precision pistols, even for plinking.
Eventually I got what I really wanted the first time, a SBR'd MP5K clone from Vector. It was nowhere near as cheap, but it did what it was supposed to.
Those types of guns are range toys only with limited appeal - with no fun switch or stock, accuracy is bad and they're just not great pistols.
Don't get me wrong, everyone should probably have one of them just to have as a toy, but.....

In terms of reliability, expect it difficult to find quality magazines. Extremely difficult. Lots of pain - you can modify Tec-9 ones to work, but again, finding good Tec mags is....painful. Pray you don't need spare parts, they're not exactly something you find everyday.
It's a relic of a particular era, and if you want relics of that era, go for it, it's just not going to be much of a shooter. The AP-9 is probably the best quality-wise of any of the Tec-9 type stuff out there, and deserves a spot if you're an 'assault pistol'-type collector - but do yourself a favor and think real hard.

the high point mags are hit and miss on reliability, and cost about 1 zillion dollars for extras. the keltec should be done with glock mags, and you will have 100% reliability. the steel buttstock must be wrapped in sponge pipe covering, if you know what is good for your face. you would be better served putting a fat red dot on top of a kel tec, to get your face up off that steel tube buttstock as much as poss. one sounds like a mac 10 copy, which so far, I would try over either of these first two, the last one, I have never heard of.
