I've had my C&R since about 2006. Just 7 years ago. That was back when you could get:
*Yugo SKS in excellent condition for $150
*Swiss K31 for $150
*Yugo Mauser for $150
*Swede Mauser for $200
*Russian Mosins for $70
*Ammo for same, 5-10 cents per round.
*etc, etc, etc.
The combonation of the decreasing dollar value, drying up surplus, and gun control fights has all but eliminated affordable surplus rifles and ammo.
Now, C&Rs are getting closer in price to modern used firearms.
I haven't bought a C&R gun in at least a year. Good deals are more scarce.
I used to also get a good discount from Midway and other places, but I don't buy much any more to take advantage of it, and the discounts are as good as they once were.
I've never been contacted by the ATF, but there is a hassle and small cost to having a C&R, and there is the *possibility* of the hassle of an inspection. And let's be real, that would be a real hassle. Although I've rarely heard of anyone being inspected.
So I'm also considering letting mine expire.
I'm on plenty of lists already (C&R, gun purchases, carry permits, military, etc.). So it isn't as much about that as just about the hassle, which I don't need.
